A better suggestion might be not to believe anything said in the press, especially by management, much less set your expectations for what the merged company will be called, seniority protections, bases, etc.

Anderson may be a good CEO, but he has zero loyalty to DAL. He is a slick operator, and can shake your hand and smile while slicing off your nuts with the other.

Still lean toward the NWA purchase of CAL (Newbridge Corp. exp. 04/08) and the NWA INC. Certificate owning Asia. NWA has authority to fly out of 11 U.S. cities to Tokyo and beyond and the 787 will be flying out of many of them in a few years as the real value of hundreds of NWA slots start to get utilized. The time has come. P.S. When I mention Delta in Narita they say it is a name on a silver handle in the rest rooms.

His "loyalty" is now with who pays him the big bucks. It may be hard for you to believe, but that is the way it goes. And, Northwest may have a great reputation in Asia, but in the rest of the world and the United States it is lacking. I can't wait to see more of Asia, thanks to this possible acquisition, if it happens.

I don't have a say in your fight, but I would like to see something you have saying otherwise. Besides what you have "heard", can you show anything that supports what you have to say? I would like to see it. Reading this article and reading Steenland's memo, I would think Northwest is not playing the dominating roll here. Do you think this author misquoted Anderson? I guess that is possible. He would know a lot about that treaty since he ran Northwest for awhile.

Heavy, I think the real point here is that mgmt lies. It doesn't matter what they say in public, it doesn't matter what they say in the paper. It only matters what they sign on the bottom line. And even then if it is your contract you can't trust them. I have known Ritchie since he first got started in the airline bidness, and I wouldn't trust his snake oil selling ass for one minute.

I'm going to disagree with you on one small point there Gen. Ritchie's "loyalty" is to himself. Delta can have what's left over because they are paying him, but there won't be much left over after he does what's best for Ritchie. I have known him for 20 years and that leopard ain't changing his spots.

As for airline reputations in the US, I think you would have to agree that there is plenty of consumer anger to go around amongst ALL U.S. airlines. NWA has no shortage of detractors, but if you think Delta has some squeaky clean image, go here, or spend 60 seconds on google with the word Delta AND your favorite derogatory slur.

I think a lot of DAL boys are going to be mighty disappointed when their loot and plunder expectations are not met. If this happens it's going to be a marriage of equals, or they might even have to pay for the privilege.

Someone refresh my memory, but how did UAL buy Pan Am's Asian rights? Was that transfer difficult? What's the perceived difference in this case? What about Air Canada buying Canadian Airlines' Asian routes? Serious question.
