I don't like paying more at the pump, but if this is what it takes to get Americans off of oil, then great. We need smaller, more efficient cars. We need more research into alternative energy sources. We need mass transit systems that are effective.

Getting off of oil will solve more of America's problems than just pain at the pump.

What happened to freedom of choice? I don't want a smaller car, and I'm willing to pay. Go ahead and buy your smartcar, just get the he!! out of the fast lane.

No matter where you stand on the political aisle, oil will put us into even worse problems than now if we dont do something. Airlines in america are still flying DC-9's, so airplanes will not be running on wind or solar anytime soon. While there are a few reasons for $140 dollar oil, Supply and Demand is the most basic. We need more supply and here in America we have vast reserves of oil that is currently illegal to touch. China is drilling off of the Florida coast but we are not allowed to.

Its Your Job and Your family, they depend on oil to be at a reasonable price. Please read this website and sign the petition and pass it on.

I agree... drill everywhere. That said. If you want help now, conservation is the way to go. We have a lot of low hanging fruit in that department.

Drilling will add oil in ten years. That's great but in ten years from now the oil we get will be a drop in the bucket. So please start drilling... But for the love of god. Move to a smaller home closer to work, build mass transit, drive a more sensible car, etc....

To the choice guy. I agree if you have the cabbage drive a Hummer 100 MPH down the highway. I should also say I support increasing the gas tax to reflect the true cost of gasoline, balance the budget, etc. But the rich will always get theres.

I sense frustration out there, time to take a deep breath and be of good cheer. As I said on the airlink pilots message board a week ago:

No longer will you hear stupid claims like "it will take 10 years to see any of the oil" or even more brain dead sophistry like "let's save our oil so we have it when the rest of the world runs out."

Drill here, drill NOW, pay less. Gingrich is an intellectual thinker and he's got the right ideas. He's also the guy who rammed Welfare Reform down slick willies' throat 3 times until final passage in August 1996, by the way.

Right, because oil prices weren't climbing at all when the republicans had control of congress. Both parties are to blame for this mess, and neither of them has an answer to bring energy prices down. We don't have to choose between drilling, conservation, and alternatives. We need all three.

Yes, exactly my point flyer. However the dems are blocking us from having a solution, that solution currently is drilling, and nuclear power. And the most recent suggestion which Nancy and Obama balked at was a suggestion by McCain that whoever does the drilling, and selling of oil in our country would be granted permits if and only if half of all profits would be used to fund research for alternative energy sources, and if there were no takers then we would nationalize the drilling. Seems like a great idea to me, and would give approximately 20 billion dollars per year towards alternative energy research. But Obama says he is happy that oil prices are this high "oil prices this high are a good thing, although I would have preferred a more gradual rise."

I'm a flaming liberal and I agree with the drilling. That said the quickest results will come on the demand side.

Blaming republicans and democrats is pathetic. We use 25% of the worlds oil. Take a look around. We have no one to blame but ourselves.

Seriously, we need to deplete the worldwide oil before we tap heavily into our own. The last man standing with oil will be king. When Saudi, et al. oil gets to a low point they WILL cut off the rest of the world.

I for one, would like to think of our untapped oil as a great reserve for the future when oil is really scarce.
