After prepping and getting ready to interview at the airline I have always dreamed of working for is there anything else I need to do? 7 references have been called how exciting!!!!!It was such a blast and I don't want to not do anything if I should be doing something. Any suggestions? Should I just chill out and wait? Thanks hyperboy

Drink, Pray, and keep Kleenex handy...you don't want any embarassing messes when the phone call comes (sounds like you might need them).

That post was gay. Like eighties "gay."

I heard it's not good to have too many of your ref's called because it means they aren't getting the info they want on you. Anybody else heard that or does it matter?

Who knows. In our interview class the ones that got their ref's called did not get hired. Some of us made it to the DB without the ref's being called. The chief pilots are taking the cream of the crop, looking for pilots that they feel will be easy to work with based on previous hiring.

Which airline are you talking about? If it's SWA, I would ask your references to mention your name to their domicile chief pilot prior to him attending the DB. The more chiefs that have at least heard your name prior to DB, the better.

Best of luck!

This is all just talk, but if you run the %'s you find out that most get hired the second time around, very few get hired the first round. My SWA contact said that he just talked to a guy that finally just got hired after his 4th round. If this is the case what you say about the chiefs is really true.

You have to be in LUV with SWA when you go for the interview. I think I was still torn up about giving up flying to Romaina, Kuwait, Hawaii, Guam,Korea and other God forsaken places that we have troops. They picked up on it, so I guess I will be stuck doing it for a while. SWA would've been an interesting change, my wife sure liked the idea.

Where do you get those numbers from? That doesn't sound right to me. Let's hear it from the SWA guys here on the board. Who can make a poll with that purpose? I don't seem to be given the option when I post.

Completely unscientific but for what it's worth:

Hired on my first try, had 3 internal recs

In the past year and 1/2 or so, I know of 8 guys from my former airline hired here, all but one of whom were on their first try, the other was his 2nd.

Also know of at least that many former co-workers who were not successful on their frist interview, and 1 who was shot down on his 2nd.

I try not to do math in public, but it looks like out of the people I know who've interviewed in the past 18 months, about 40% or so were hired on the first try.

I agree with StopNTSing....your next step is to get your name in front of as many Chief Pilots as possible. I had pilots from 4 domiciles that either took my resume or their letter of recommendation to their Chief Pilot before the board met.

I think the hiring percentages are a little less than mentioned above. Two boards met for the August interviewees. I heard that the first board (28 Aug) had a 20-25% hire rate...the second (12 Sep) had almost a 30% hiring rate. It seems that the overall average is 25%.

Did you ever think that maybe they just hire the good guys? Ask your buddies who've gotten hired how many chiefs they went and saw, but I don't think it has anything to do with how many chiefs you know. Too many were hired who didn't know/meet any chiefs.

SWAnging....I agree. They are picky with who they hire, and they can afford to be with all the applications they have. Even so, the numbers still work out to about 25%.

Your second point is true as well....many people get hired without the type rating, without references called, and without getting their name in front of a Chief Pilot. As for me, I just wanted to do everything I could within my power to help with the process. If there are people you know, then I think it is good to network with them and ask for their assistance.

Bottom line...they hire who they like.

attitude is everything...I went in there making sure if nothing else they would remember me as a guy who would love to be there...and it worked...you might know everyone at SWA but in the end attitude is everything. Of course, I also had guys on the inside talking to the chiefs...but that won't work unless you shine during your interview...it's all attitude. I think they are hiring more guys their first time through now than they had in a while. What do I know though...all I know is someone was looking out for me that day.

Well said puddlejumber....no matter what inside help you may have, you can make it or break it during the interviews.

I didn't know any chiefs, but I knew some of the indians.

Got hired on the first attempt and this place is better than I dreamed it would be!
