What percentage of SWA pilots commute?

I don't know the actual number company wide, but the less "desirable" bases (MDW, OAK and BWI) have a much larger % of commuters than the other bases.


When I was in MDW, the base % of commuters was in the 80% range.

Why are those considered less desirable? Cost of living? 3 pretty cool towns if you ask me.

Cost of living is the main reason. Try to find a decent home in the Bay area (OAK) for less than $500,000. BWI and MDW are notas bad but if you are a retired commuter guy like me it is all out of the price range. DAL, HOU, MCO and PHX are moe affordable but they are also more senior. My wife aint movin anyway!

Man you are way off base about Oakland!!!! Every city in the country has it's bad spots and Oakland is no exception to this. I can tell that you have never spent time in the lake merrit area or the Oakland hills!! Both are far from being ghettos and that's only to name two places...
