if your heading portland you have to go to the old port. three dollar deweys as previously mentioned is a good place, old port tavern, the iguana. Most of the places are good but it is a hippy town. have fun.

Good breakfast at a place near the airport called "eggspectations" looks like a martini bar but they do a nice breakfast... Good OJ.

Drink a couple of Shipyard beers for me. If you have a car you could head down to York Beach area for the day(about 45 mins south on 95) or drive up the coast on route 1 there is some awsome scenery if you take some side roads down to the little villages along the coast. Let us know what you do on your trip.

I live in Portland and all the bar/food suggestions so far have been right on the money. The Portland Head Light is also a nice place to visit. If you get the harbor visual to 29 from the south, you'll have a nice view of it as you come it to land. I would also suggest a visit to 2 lights state park and eat at the lobster shack. Good food and you can't beat the view.

Freeport is definitely worth the trip, especially if the wife is joining you.

Enjoy, it's a great town.

Hit up the old downtown area... On early arrivals I like to go downtown to the little grocery store right on the harbor... get some bread and fruit then sit down there and snack while watching the people.

Walk the shops (lots of them), be sure to hit the fudge place a few (2) blocks up from the harbor, the condom store (Condom Sense) place right next door for a good laugh, then head back down to the water and eat out on the deck at portland lobster co. Beers, 2 lobsters and sides for about $18, IIRC (been two summers since I was last there).

Drive out to the light house and if you have the time head up to Freeport. It's a great drive and the scenery is really nice. Plus there are plenty of little places to stop along the way to get off the beaten path.
