If a guy was a new hire there soon, what do you think he could expect for choices of domicle or airplane and what does upgrade look like? I've heard about 400 new hires in 1-1.5 years.

Anyone else here this rumor?

36 new airplanes ~350 pilots?

I debating of jumping ship as its home for me.

It is an extreme gamble at this point, if age 65 passes it will be a disaster as the NWA pilots flow back into the CRJ900. NWA has announced its intention to replace the DC-9 with the ERJ/CRJ.

MEM is always junior

Doesn't NWA plan on replacing some of the DC-9 flying with 110 seat ERJ also?

uh...the first 36 are not subject to flow back, they are grandfathered replacements for the avro. you should read (or reread) the nwa scope language

No, Mesaba is now different since it has become a wholly owned subsidy. It is no different than compass now.

No one knows yet about any possible flow up/flow down situation with NWA pilots. It might happen, and it might not. Nothing is established yet. Age 65 will take a couple/few years before implementation, so there will still be mainline retirements.

Within a few months, all of the FO's who are currently hired and want to get back to MSP, will get there. For the first few months of the "hiring wave", new hires should pretty much be able to get which ever base they want, later in the "wave", some bases might be harder to get.

The first couple of batches of new hires may have to wait a month or two for MSP, as the shuffling of current hires still settles down.

As far as upgrades go, MSP will always be a b*tch to get as captain, as a lot of lifers are in MSP.

If you decide to come here, needless to say, the earlier the better, as that is when a ton of movement will happen.

Either way, good luck.

Msp

Being a furloughee, sitting in the lower 1/3 of the furlough list, after all is said and done with the recall, not necessarily new hires, as I beleive that could all change or take some time, any guesses on how long to get MSP and if so, anyone have a crystal ball that can tell me if I would just make the bottom of the list there? I know, I am looking for easy answers to difficult questions but the time is coming to make a decision...

where did you hear this?

I have not heard that being official??????/

You should have access to mymesaba again. Just pull up the feb1 seniority list and the 7-01 vacancy award and see where you would have fallen.... It looks like the recall went all the way to the bottom of the list with so many bypassing. my guess is you might have just squeaked in to the bottom of DTW Saab or for sure MEM. All but 2 or 3 of the MSP CR9 spots went to current(non furloughed fo's) [shakes head in disbelief of SJS over captain upgrade]

Don't do it.

Jumping ship for Mesaba is like jumping from one of the Titanic's life boats into the north Atlantic. At least you're marginally floating in the life boat.

yeah for me its a tough decision. if i could be a msp captain making 55K+ in 6 years it would be worth it; i'd be one of the msp captain lifers.

how long do you think it would be to be a msp captain? (crystal ball time, i'm trying to decide some very serious stuff here).

If you want to be a MSP CA making $60K+ in a short amount of time why don't you apply at PCL? You'd be there in under three years.

GO TO SPIN ONE INNICLE. I have friends over there that have been there 2 years and are on the vacany for the summer in the left seat. The prob at Pinch nickle is that they hire the jet boy wonders at 500 hrs and when their number for the left seat is up the cant meet the 3000/3500 total time for the upgrade. If you wanna be in MSP go to Pinnacle. Mesaba is not even out of the woods with this whole mess. Oh and YPF, airmasn is right, get it right, its all propaganda till its on the ramp. Any contract any time any place can be Violated. What makes this different? NWA mainline guys werent whining about this till they found out we were being purchased. They are too cool to fly them on their own certificate. But now they wanna cry about something since NWA mangt. is all out of KY. CCYAYA

What is 3000/3500?

Mesaba is going to be hiring from the very same pool of pilots here pretty soon and you'll have the same problem. If I remember right you guys have some pretty onerous upgrade requirements too.

As far as Capt. Upgrades go. at XJ in the NEW LOA
As far as I read the contract Sec 24. Para D. Sub Sec 1.
1. FAR minimuims
2. 1k flight hours with the company, or 2 years of active service.( service need not be continous).Which ever comes first.
Then if no piltos are available to fill the vacancy they can reduce the requiremnt of two year by monthly increment if needed and so on.

Somehow I don't see lack of qualified FO's for upgrading a problem at Mesaba anytime soon. If anyone thinks upgrade is going to drop below 2 years here I want what you are smoking....

Upgrade in 6 years!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA! In MSP????? That's even better. Try 6 years to be the last of a dying breed flying a prop as CA in beautiful, cool, arid, MEM.

While all your contemporaries will be going to SWA, FDX, NJA, CO, you will still be a FO in the Saab at XJ. Don't jump ship unless the upgrade is more than 5 years where you currently are.

What has it been in the past to make MSP Captain? If its that long better off staying here than getting my upgrade in 3 years, jump ship to NWA mainline on the 9 iron,,....er then it might be the CRJ1000 (new airplane i guess [not NWA.]), or the ERJ or CRJ900.

Then I could finally have my MSP base with fair income.

you could be a betting guy (gal) and think XJ is going to get far more than 36 new aircraft. If thats the case then we are all in good shape, and the first who come will be aswell. But I hve said it before, it will take 36 aircraft, plus the 15+ (20) we were suppose to get with the past NWA agreement, replce the 11 or so saabs we lost to make true growth here. so figure when we go well above 1200 pilots will I think things are even here. Now i am not to say that its not good that we are getting the 36 initial crj 900's, its just I think we would need more to get past where we were. Oh one more thing, when I upgrade, its to a Saab, lower pay rates than at Skywest, pinnacle, mesa...everyone else who has a butload of jets.

Take the bet, your staffing model for the year is 400 hires to fill the 14 crj 900s and 16 crj 200's..............

I cannot believe anyone would jump ship to go to Mesaba...why why why. BTW, I didn't get a call for furlough recall...I was looking forward to taking 20 minutes of their time with stupid questions then tell them I found a job with a successful airline...plus MSP DTW and MEM blow

16 CR2's huh... hmm let's see we hit a grand total of 2, one of which is now being used for proving runs to get Compass going. The other of which is scheduled to be removed from service June 6, 2007 very soon after the first CR9 comes online..... Anyone still wondering why we operated the one CRJ for so long?

so you are saying that they are hiring 400 pilots to fill for 30 planes? shouldn't that number be 300 for 30 planes, and what about attrition? is that what the extra 100 is for? when are they going to announce these new 200's?
