I wanted to ask the advice of ya'll as I'm at a bit of a crossroads. I have been a CFI since 9/11/01, but due to the University I was instructing at my total time is just now hitting 1000 hours. Last August I moved to the Chicago area to instruct and now I am even starting to get a little Citation time in their 135 operation with a possible contract offer sometime in the next few months.

My delemna is this, is it worth it to stay at this 135 operator where as an F/O I'll get $175/day with no guaranteed days off at all and limited benefits on contract with probably no room to move up in the next 5-10 years? My other option is to move back towards Florida and see what I can do there for a career. The fact is I really would like to stay around GA including charter and flight instruction and I would like to do this closer to home in Florida. I'm just wondering if it is worth leaving my current job to head home and try one more time. What do you all think???

Thanks,
CW

Well if home is between palm beach and Miami, you should have no problem getting a job flying charter in a jet. there are easily 10 charter ops at fxe boca and palm beach alone. Also 1000 hours is considered high time in sofla.Plus you ahve some jet time. you will get a job. I say go for it. You just arent building enough experience in chicago.

How much citation time do you have now? I'm assuming you haven't been to school on it either? You'll be marketable once you get over 100 in type or have a current school...but otherwise I'd stay where you're at right now.

I agree, stay where you are until you build at least a reasonable amount of time in the Citation... 10-20 hours doesn't mean squat... Get at LEAST 100 hours and then you will be more marketable... An ATP would also be good as well...
