What do other freelance mechanics charge on corporate aircraft.

Am working on a King Air 90, a 200 and a P-Baron for a company I am getting some fill in pilot work from.

Am acting as an assistant to the regular mechanic who has fantastic experience on the aircraft but is tired and doesn't get the jobs done as quick as with me there helping him or at his direction.

They already asked me to take his position but I said no I'm not going to take his work but I will work with him.

I haven't told him I took to bat for him.

He is handling the sign offs.

I am doing most of the heavy work and learning a great deal from him.

My shop rate 10 years ago at my little 1500 sq foot shop I only paid 500 a month for with no liability insurance was 35 and hour.

But this is at their hangar. Paid by check via end of month invoice with no benefits or weekly or monthly gurantee, no taxes taken out, just paid out the door with 1099 and W-9.

We haven't work out a price for work yet whether paid by the day the hour or job.

But I have done 8 days of work so far and they know they need me to complete the jobs on time.

No other guys like me around this area.

What are the rates out there now for this type of work.

When sitting right seat in a King Air for em doing nothing but preflight throwing the gear and catering am getting 250 a day because they paid for my King Air initial. (Couple of the customers need two pilots for their insurance.)

But as a mechanic with hands hurting using much background and experience it has always seemed silly to get more sitting right seat doing 1 or 2 flights per day.

Yeah,

Am A&P and IA and got that IA and A&P the old way.

Had em since 1991

But by way of keeping the other fella an older guy with fantastic experience on King Air and other corporate aircraft, he is taking care of the sign offs.

I'm just doing the work and e is teaching me the good stuff.

I don't think he knows I stood up for him to the owners whe they aske me to take his position and I am not going to tell him.

By thw ay I have a T-6 too.Actually a SNJ-5 converted from T-6 by Pensacola, and am experienced on radical engines as well as the jets and PT6 (DC-3, F6F, F4F, R4D4)

I was wondering because you had said that the other guy was signing off your work. You also said that he was teaching you how to work on the aircraft.

It sounds to me like you don't have the experience IAW Part 65 to perform the work, according to your statements. I'm just playing devils advocate here.

Do you have the required tools, equipment, and documents to maintain the aircraft in accordance with the manufacturers and federal requirements?

Yes dippy If you read I was trying to keep him having a job. And by him keeping his signing off / supervisory duites it goes toward that end. Protecting another mechanics job.

As you are aware there is no way to get the experience to work on a particular item without having done it before with the required documentation.

He has an amazing amount of experience and he is teaching me all the ins and outs of the King Air and a P Baron that only years of experience teaches.

The things you didn't learn in school.

With an answer like that I am absoultely sure I have more experience than you will ever have ERJ guy. If you want call me up and we'll meet and discuss it and exchange resumes.

Meanwhile back at the ranch thanks the fella that gave a comment towards the question.

What a waste of time this board is. Even the so called mechanincs are idiots.

HMMM, geez you're overly sensitive.
I don't need to exchange resumes with you, I have been an IA since Feb, 78, owned, flown, and maintained several round motored airplanes, have been a mechanic/inspector for an aviation museum, have been an RII inspector for a 121 carrier, and now maintain aircraft for the US military, with a secret security clearance.

So now you want to perform illegal maintenance? You obviously do not have the minimum tools, equipment, documentation, and experience required by the 14CFR's, and you get your feeling hurt because a knowledgable person asks a couple of questions?

Your customers deserve better than you.

ERJ you are a focking idiot and your full of sh1t

Thanks for wasting my time.

Embarrased to be part of the same race as you.

Back to real mechanics I was asking what the current rates are keeping in light we have to take care of our own taxes and everything else an employer would normally pay above the wages of an employee.

Wow..... They must have removed the english proficient requirements.

I said.........

.

And ERJ couldn't get anybody. He talks like a 3 year mechanic apprentice graduated from embry.

Nobody that got an IA in 78 would talk like that

You guys should restart the dialogue. There seems to be a miscommunication going on here.

Why is aviation so filled with cranky people. In person or online, you're all dorks.

Laters.

What it is, is there is always some dork sh1tbird that wants to prove to everybody he is somebody by looking for some kind of way to lambast someone about stuff that is not even being discussed.

Why shold I go tell this stupid dip weed where I get my data and all about my shop and equipment and experience for his approval when all I am asking is what the latest freelance rates are.

These type of dorks are rampant here and when they say something nobody else wants to be involved because they have already tainted the waters by their presence in front of normal regular real aviators on this board.

Maybe they only have a couple inches.

In order to answer your original question, a little more information was needed. Someone tried helping you, but you took offense like you have short-man's syndrome.

Judging by your grammar and spelling, I assume you were born in '91, and as such you know everything there is to know about everything.

Based on your attitude, lack of experience, and childish name-calling, I'd probably pay you about $7 - $8 an hour to sweep the hangar floor. That's a good rate for a part time, high-schooler isn't it?

How tall are you by the way?

Hmmm sounds very much like a 14 year old wannabe. The immature posts, the disjointed language, and the flame-bait style of posting are very reminiscent of another poster who was recently banned, and then attempted to return. In fact, sounds very much like alimbo, again.

Regardless of whom it may be, with that poor an attitude, and the multiple stories and life history that simply doesn't add up, I think it's safe to conclude that the thread and the poster are both a non-starter.

A mechanic who's held an IA for two decades, yet can't decide how much to charge? A mechanic who's been an IA for two decades but is grateful for being taught the ropes on a baron or king air? A mechanic who's an IA who can't pick up a mx manual and do for himself? I'm perfectly aware of the regulation, but this level of immaturity in both attitude and decision making, to say nothing of the inability to determine how much one should be making speak loudly that the poster isn't whom he states himself to be. Whether he's an imposter, a "wannabe," or simply alimbo back to pretend he's something else again...there's no doubt that hmmmm lacks the experience he states he has, that he or she has misrepresented himself or herself, and that this poster doesn't deserve more than a passing goodby.

Try again when you grow up. That may be a while.
