I went to the Lasergrade testing place (flight school) for the purpose of taking the CFI written test. I told the guy that I wanted to take the CFI-AGI, thinking that it was one test, but with some extra AGI questions mixed into the bank.

Anywho, I got done, and looked at my "knowledge test report." It said "advanced ground instructor." I said, "wait a minute, what's this?"

It was then that I learned that the tests are separate.

After reseting the 'puter and paying another $80, I took the CFI written in just over 35 minutes.

My question is: What do I do with this knowledge test report? Do I show it to somebody and get a cookie? Do I prove that I'm an "advanced ground instructor" by hanging this thing on my wall, or is there another step I've gotta take?

go to your local FSDO, turn it in and they'll give you a temporary cert. The FAA will send you a ground instructor license just like your CFI. You need a AGI or IGI if you ever plan on having a gold seal affixed to your CFI cert.

You have to fill out an 8710 and either take it to the FSDO or have a DE send it. In a few weeks you will get a nice plastic certificate that says you are a ground instructor. Then you get a cookie!!

I never got one so I'm not 100% sure of what I just typed.

It's true...8710 and Written test score to the FSDO...takes about 3 minutes total once you get the appointment and get in there.

I'm endorsing all of my students' written test endorsements (wow was that redundant) with it...no need to keep a record that way.

Hey, now I've got something to do tomorrow! Thanks!

Hey mini, can you elaborate on that please? Never heard of that.

Thanks.

So you put your AGI and not CFI # on their endorsements?

Don't forget your FOI test.

If you are not already a CFI, you will need the AGI knowledge test and the FOI knowledge test! Both will need to be shown to the FSDO.

Same number...just doesn't say "CFI" at the end...I put "AGI" or "IGI" when I do a "ground" endorsement just for no confusion.

Flechas,
61.189 specifically spells out the records you're required to keep for 3 years - knowledge test endorsement (and the result) is one of them

There's no such regulation regarding ground instructor records....just flight instructor records

Hope that helped.

ALSO - You can endorse for the "ground" portion of a 61.56 Flight review with an AGI even if your buddy or Johnny Comelately is gonna fly with him...
