Well I shouldn't have attacked you there, I thought your post was in response to mine. As for aviation, just a few years ago this was a good job. Would you really have gone to med school? 24 hour+ shifts 4 days per week as a resident, after 8+ years of college. Sky high insurance rates and being surrounded by the sick and dying your whole career. Not my cup of tea.

The piloting job took a long, hard fall. It used to be a world class profession if you were luck enough to make the big leagues. But that was back before the RJ plague arrived. It's a bitch when the rules change halfway through the game.

yes, really, knowing a few Docs myself - I surely would have gone into surgery. I couldn't believe these guys were in school years after I was...but looking at it now, they are in thier early to mid 30's and really starting to make serious dough!! (400K+ easy) and they just dont seem to work those "killer" hours docs talk about...

but hey, that doesn't matter I guess...all I can do is fly an airplane...but it could be worse....far worse.

It's an outdated test that samples math and verbal knowledge and has nothing to do with IQ.

The ACT is a knowledge test; the SAT is an APTITUDE test, ergo the name "Scholastic Aptitude Test." That is, it claims to measure one's APTITUDE to learn and succeed in a college setting. As such, I'm willing to bet there's a casual relationship between the SAT score and a person's IQ.

Having said that, I must add: “So what?” Until SAT score is included as part of the formula for determining compensation, I don't think it matters to anybody OTHER than the college admissions bunch.


It might make an interesting POLL, though.

I got a 30 on the ACT after taking it three or four times. Normally I wouldn't have cared, but I'm hoping to be appointed to the Naval Academy, so, in my case, even if the scores don't mean anything, I still need them to be taken seriously. I feel somewhat guilty about how many times I took it, and all the time I spent reading those stupid ACT Review and Practice books when I could have been out doing something fun and interesting, but, in the end, I feel it was worth it. Although I do think colleges place far too much emphasis on these tests. If one is interesting enough, however, a 1200 on the SAT isn't going to keep a student out of any college in the country.

I couldn't get a good enough score on the SAT to be accepted into college, so I just went to a junior college for two years and transfered into a a university. I thought to myself, if it works for all those athletes in Florida, it should work for me too.

Just joking. 880 for me and I taught for the university while still in school. Those test are an absolute waste of time.

Well, since the MAX score on the ACT is a 36, we seem to have a bit of a problem. We start with four individual scores, and then they are supposed to be AVERAGED together - - not ADDED together!

The first time I took the ACT I bombed big time. Several weeks later I received a no questions asked acceptance letter to the University of Arkansas! I was much too refined to go to that hick college...went to Kentucky instead.

Makers Mark on the rocks is a good stiff drink. Or if you really want something tasty try a Manhattan made with Makers Mark. Make sure you get it "up" instead of on the rocks. That drink is really hard to beat.

You don't need either test to get into a university. I feel sorry for all of those poor students who freak out about the tests. It is really just a big pi$$ing contest after the scores come back.

Speaking of, I would think if you are going to start a post to "show off" your "high" scores, you would at least be able to use correct grammar...
