Dunno.
I tried to jumpseat on Comair from Bangor to Boston yesterday (about 200 miles), and the gate agent wouldn't let me on because they were weight restricted. Give me a break.

First off who do you work for?

Second off, looking at your time and amount of post you don't know much.

I don't even fly the CRJ 200's, but I do know that if the destination wx isn't good and they have to use an alternate that means more fuel on board.

Hence the Weight Restriction. Hence leaving your newbie a$$ behind. So give us all a break!

somebody's new to the biz.

Short flights can get weight restricted too due to landing weight lims. The flight's so short that they can't burn enough gas to land light.

And yesterday the alt could have been a long way away and the contingency fuel, who knows how much the Capt wanted on a day like that, but thanks for second guessing the guy.

Did you happen to see the WX in BOS yesterday? In case you didn't...here's what the last 24 hours looked like.

That's alot of fractions...I hated fractions in elementary school.

Now, considering that you're dense enough that you don't seem to understand the concept of Max Landing Weights and how alternate/holding fuel impacts that number...do I need to translate the METARs for you as well?

Well, the gate agent saying: "WE'RE WEIGHT RESTRICTED!!! I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR JUMPSEATERS NOW!!!" and the Captain saying: "Sorry man, we have have an alternate filed today and we're weight restricted" are 2 different things. And I can crunch numbers with the best of em.

Totally agree...but anyone (Pilot, DXer, ATC, FAA, etc.) who has jumpseated at least once in their life should know how to work this situation instead of throwing a little interweb fit because they didn't get their way...

The RJ sucks.

RJ= rejected jumpseaters. :(

MTOW-53K, MLDW-47K. That's 6K pounds , or almost two hours worth of flying time. Anything under that time and the RJ will almost ALWAYS be restricted...

Plus the -200 is out of CG with 50 people and all their damn bags.

Depends on the operator, as well as which method they use to come up with CG.

I've rode one company where they "graphed" the CG. Full of people, full of bags, plane was nose heavy with me up in the front.

On my own company at that time, using the wheel, it was never an issue.

At least you had a chance with the RJ, regional turboprops are ZFW limited from the starting gate. Lot's of types can't fill all the seats no matter how cold the temp, how clear the wx, or how short the flight.

Not always true. Dash 8 300's no worries 50 pax (83bags) alternate gas and your still good to go.

Dash 8 100! Ahhhhhh, run away fast. Unless we are carrying a little league baseball team.

Not to sure about the Dash 400's, Saab 340's or ATR's.

In the SAAB, sometimes putting a JS up front means that you won't have to pull 2 revenue pax for balance issues.

It's fun trying to explain to an agent why the JS can get on while 1 revenue pax cannot.

The weather blew all over the NE. Legal alternates were a long way off for us, so they probably needed a boatload of gas.

I tried to jumpseat on Comair from Bangor to Boston yesterday (about 200 miles), and the gate agent wouldn't let me on because they were weight restricted. Give me a break.

Did you ask (politely) if you could speak to the Captain?

Wanderlust...

A$$, Cash, or Grass, nobody rides for free.

Memorize it. Did u have anything to offer?

Piedmont crew brought us some Krispy Kreme's last week, so what happened this week when an EN'r wanted the jumpseat? We threw 650 lbs. of ballast in the back to accomodate.
It may have not been the 3 listed above, but who is gonna turn down some free Krispy Kreme?

Dunno.
Those are good points, but by the time the gate agent booted me, the flight was already 30 minutes late. I hadn't spoken to (or bribed) the captain. As for the previous responses, you're telling me they don't have enough flexibility to fudge 200lbs on a 50,000lb airplane? Brilliant. I always make the numbers work for a jumpseater.

Might not have been just 200 lbs. They may well have left a few revenue pax as well. When that happens, you are doomed. Unless you are a United pilot, on United equipment, you are not getting a jumpseat on a truly weight restricted airplane that had to boot revenue pax.

Actually, the -200 is out of CG with 50 ppl and not enough bags. More bags=better for a jumpseater, up to max TOW. If you are jumpseating on a CRJ-200, gate check all of your bags, it will help.

This can not be a serious post, it has to be flame bait, no way anyone can not understand this.
