It's MOSTLY area-nav based now. Some RNAV based systems still use VOR/VOR DME/DME triangulation to figure their Lat/Long... but GPS is probably the majority.

DC9, 727 and 737-200 pilots still feel joys of U-NAV, We-Nav, but no RNAV... exceptions excluded of course.

Big Sky uses both vor and adf. Our new planes from Commutair have gps, but are deactivated for the time being.

Heck, if you've got working Comm, then you've got yourself a handy dandy voice activated navigation device.

My airline isn't approved for Class II Nav yet, so even though we're using the GPS as the main navaid, we're still plugging in VORs as we head down the road.

Typical DC-9 day flying....
ATC: Cleared direct (insert favorite RNAV fix here)
DC-9 Pilot: (In most professional voice) Sorry...we can't do that...But we are vector equipped.:D
