You get time off (and don't have to put up with the B.S.) but you don't give up your seniority.

We had people take it but usually it was because they had another job or source of income, their wives worked and they saved on day care, or they wanted to try a new career without losing the chance to evere go back to airline flying.

Not for most but for some it can be beneficial.

I know you won't lose seniority just make sure you don't lose longivity after all you don't wanna leave for 2 yrs and come back with 5 yr seniority and still a 3rd yr pay. Some contracts protect you under voluntary and some don't. Talk to your union.:puke:

Do you get unemployment? If so, what state do you receive it from, permanent address or base? How much is unemployment typically? 40%?

I hope not.

I can't imagine a person taking a VOLUNTARY furlough and then trying to get unemployment.

Why should the rest of the taxpayers work hard and support a person who is too lazy to work?

Not typically but it depends on your state. I believe you get unemployment through the state in which your tax home is.

No. There was just a case heard in the NJ courts over the exact case. If the company OFFERS a VOLUNTARY layoff and you agree and receive some type of benefit in retun (in this case time-off with continued seniority) then you are not eligible for unemployment benefits. Basically if there is an agreement between you and the company for the voluntary layoff you are not eligible for benefits.

You would file for and receive unemployment from your state of residence. In NJ it is 60% of your weekly salary up to $536 a week.

Hey I've been paying into these programs for 20 years to watch it get thrown away as economic stimulus checks and wasted debit cards at casinos by New Orleans residents. I'll take the checks and do something constructive like paint my house. I wish I could kick the soap box out from under your feet myself.
