.......

Second passports are only good for 2 years, not 10 years as your primary. Also the second passports are no longer renewed after expiring, but an entirely new 2 year passport is issued.

Also suggest that you renew any passport that has 6 or less months of validity left in it, as many countries will not let you enter or issue you a visa if your passport expires within 6 months of your arrival.

Not to totally disagree with you, but I applied for (through my company and their visa/passport expediting service) and received a second passport a few weeks ago.

It is good for 10 years, according to the data inside...(date of issue is Jan 2008, date of expiration Jan 2018).

And my original passport is still valid.

Mine (received last summer) is only good for two years, as well.

Thats interesting.

I wonder how I ended up getting a 10 year?..

My first thought was maybe the visa company thought I had lost my primary passport, and issued my second one as if it was a reissue or something.

But at the same time I put in the paperwork for the second passport, I had a visa put in the first, primary passport.

I assume if a visa was stamped in it, that the primary passport was checked for validity as well.

I can guarantee you that the passport office made a mistake, one that could cause you severe problems down the line. I'm very much tied in and have worked with Chris Davis of G3 Visas - this has happened before and is a MISTAKE. You absolutely, positively may NOT have two 10 year passports - I suggest you contact whoever got you the second one and ask them what to do - you cannot go on with the 2 passports you have now - although the mistake is not yours, you will pay for it down the line.

If you don't believe what I'm saying, please call G3 Visas is Washington and discuss this with them - they are THE guru of passports.

Thanks for the heads-up, I will look into it.

Did your contact give you any specific information on what specific problems this could cause down the road?...

If this was a sizeable problem, you would think that it wouldn't have been allowed to proceed to the point of actually issuing a second 10 year passport.

I have already obtained visa's in my initial 10 year passport, received a second 10-year passport, traveled outside the US leaving on my new 10-year and entering elsewhere on the same one (all this happening within the same week).

Not that I don't believe you, as you seem to know what you are talking about, but I would like some more clarification on the issue.

I am just wondering exactly where red flags are going to be raised?

I'm not in a position or in the know to tell you what the red flags are - the only thing I know from discussions last year with G3 is that having two 10 year passport is not legal. I urge you to contact G3 Visas in Washington (speak with Chris Davis, the owner) for specific reasons.

One of the guys in our department received a 10 year second passport when he renewed it recently. We have 2 guys currently applying for them, I will check their expirations when they get theirs back.....

Check into a Schengen (sp) visa. Good throughout the EU for 5 yrs as long as your passport has that much time left on it. Easy process, make an appointment at a French Consulate, show up with paperwork and cash. Done in about 1 hr.

I landed at La Bourget Paris. NEVER even looked at my passport. The copilot spoke French, which helped, and the police car said welcome and turned and drove away. No paper work either.

Paris is incredible! The buildings and parks here are the most impressive I have ever seen. Freaking expense though.

Let me know if anyone needs info on Moscow Paris Geneva and London

I am available for contract work in the FA50EX and G3 and anything else that has wings, APU and a flight attendant.

Good times.
