Sure there are generational differences but as an amateur musician I can appreciate good guitar oriented rock from the Stones to Weezer and everything in between... You just can't lump Nirvana in with Britney Spears and P Diddy that's just wrong. Grunge rock is still rock and you can't compare people who actually play their own instruments and write their own songs to someone who puts together a drum loop and a sample and calls themselves an "artist". Or even worse the electronic music being made now using computer programs, (they call it "trance" because the same computer generated rhythm over and over again literally puts your brain to sleep .) I respect anyone who straps on an instrument and tries to create something, beyond that it's just clothes and hair. ;)

"New bands? What do you need with new bands? Everyone knows rock and roll reached it's pinnacle in 1974!"

Geddy Lee: Mickey Mouse on Helium

Any info if Milli Vanilli will be touring this summer, also? Can you guys do me a favor and take some pics at the concert, should be good for a laugh. Jeez guys, let them go!

I am 25 and can vouge that rock in my generation sucks. Music, for that matter, sucks. I've been waiting for this tour for a while. Just wish it was DLR instead of Faggy Haggar...

Watch it little boy at least Sammy Hagar still has his hair DLR has a comb over.

I am sure you and your Metrosexual ghetto boys can't wait until Justin Timberlake comes to "ROCK"* your home town!

*disclaimer the word "ROCK" is meant as a joke, it does not imply that JT can or ever will know what "ROCK" means, because he CAN'T!

Hey, I'm closing in on 50 and have been "rocking" as long or longer than Rush, Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, etc. It's just that there IS good rock that was created this century, and it has nothing to do with what kind of fabulous musicians Geddy Lee or any of those other guys are/were.

Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, and Eric Johnson are all exceptional musicians, as well. I just don't come unglued when they roll through town for the gazillionth time. I would like to think that I can broaden my horizons beyond 1980.

Hey now flx,

I have heard Santana a dozen or so times and still, if he gets to town, I am there. If nothing else, because that man is sooo smooth on the guitar, its like cream to my ears:)

Never miss Satriani either!

Oh, and when ZZTOP comes around, I am there too, they always seem to put on a great gig.

If you look beyond what plays on mainstream radio nowadays, you'll find some good gems out there....here's some worth a listen.

Kings of Leon - Southern style rock, kinda like allman brothers on steroids. I'm hooked!
White Stripes - Hard Blues, great guitar playin
Queens of the Stone Age
Interpol - English 80s rock, if that's your thing.
The Darkness - big hair arena rock

Hmm...now that i think about it, all the aforementioned bands borrow heavily from the 70s and 80s. Ok, I guess there really isn't any good and truely original music out there nowadays.

Well, matchbox 20 is pretty original, John Sayer and let's not forget Eminem, yes some of the stuff is pretty vulgar, but some of it is pretty darn intelligent, not to mention funy. The video "without me" is hilarious.

I'm agreeing with most of what you all are saying. In fact, Billy Gibbons, IMO, is the best (and my most personally influential) guitarist around.

My only real point is that some of my friends seem to think that good music ceased to be made anytime after around 1974. I tend to listen to stuff that ranges from 60s R&B to the White Stripes and Seether.

There IS good stuff being made today. That's all I was trying to say.

As for new bands I am digging the Strokes and I really like that song from the Darkness, kind of a throwback but you gotta love those big riffs and stadium rock sound. :D

Wee

Got my Van Hagar ticket today.
Here is the details!

Five Star

You're not just a fan. You're a fanatic.

There's nothing like it - the noise, the magic of being backstage while the crew runs around setting things up before a rock show. And you'll be there in the middle of it all. You'll be taken around as the riggers are in the rafters, the guitar techs get things tuned, and you are privy to Van Halen's inner sanctum. You'll even get a sneak peek of the show at Van Halen's sound check! Then, hang out at an exclusive party having a bite, having a drink, and collecting your special Van Halen package of goodies. Finally, it's out front to your seat in the first 10 rows while Eddie, Alex, Michael and Sammy rock you harder than you've ever been rocked before!

Each Five Star Package Includes:

1 Ticket in the First Ten (10) Rows
Five Star Laminate
Backstage Tour**
Pre-Show Party**
Soundcheck
Early Visit to the Merchandise Stand
Exclusive Van Halen T-shirt
Tour Program

Man, what a summer this is going to be!!

How much for the 5 star package? The four star was $175. I am going to buy a five star for the shows in Californication!;)

This just in....AP Reports of Van Halens world tour have sparked a mass shortage of pink aqua net hair spray...Workers are putting in overtime trying to keep up with thte heavy demand for the 80's nostalgic hair spray..Oh and on another tip..People everywhere are waxing up their old camaros and firebirds in a rebirth of crappy rocks like the world has never seen before.. Barbers are seeing a rebirth in the trend of rat tails and mullets like never before..Business up front party in the back...Just like a Hooters airplane...

Van "Hagar" is possibly the best rock band yet to walk the face of the earth. Remember "Dreams" with the blue angles?

Yeah, right....

I could name dozens of better bands, but just don't feel the need.

I'll agree to that ONLY when they have been making music for decades and still touring......
