I guessing that I will get lots of "do it now" or "can't hurt" responses to this question, but just thought I'd ask anyway.

Pounding it out in the regionals right now and will have my 1000 PIC by the end of the year (barring any unforseen circumstances). Will I even get looked at if I start applying now or just pushed into the "doesn't meet mins pile." Don't have any inside help anywhere either since none of the folks I've been flying with for the past 2yrs who have the time, haven't been sucked up by anyone yet.

Also curious what's competitve these days for those that are getting hired.

Just looking for some advice from the folks who finally made the "big time."

Thanks for the help

Apply where you're eligible, that you'd like to work. First, it CAN'T hurt, second, perseverance & dedication (perceived as well as actual) can have rewards, and third you might just get lucky and be selected to fill the one "low timer makes good" slot for that class/month/year. At worst, you'll have "earlier app" seniority over your twin who waits for 2000 hours TPIC to apply!

At your stage, don't worry so much about "competitive" -- if you got the mins & they're taking apps, apply if you'd like to work there. Then stay on top of the updates.

Best of luck!

My new hire class at ATA ranged from about 3,500TT on the low end to 11,000+ on the high end. Everyone had 1000+ TPIC

If you apply prior to having the required mins at FedEx, at least you have an app in the system you can update. I have several buddies who are NOT in the system now wishing they were.

I would apply to any company I was interested in once I had 85-90% of the time or experience required, then keep updating. For you military guys with the experience, I'd recommend you apply to anyone accepting apps, even if your availablility date is a few years away. As a general rule, if you are IN the system somewhere you can update (FDX, SWA) but if they are not currently accepting apps you are out of luck. Get in the system at the first available chance.

Thanks for all helpful responses....just wanted to make sure the train keeps heading down the right track.

Of those in the ATA class......did any of them have only turbo prop PIC? If so how many?

I started with UPAS and then found the FedEx site. It was very easy to fill out and even though I did not have the mins at the time, I knew I would in the future.

Long term goals take experience, vision, dedication, and a little luck to achieve.
