VA benefits for 737 type?

I have heard of guys using their VA benifits for their 737 tyep rating and was wondering if this is their GI Bill benefits? I served 4yrs and was released from active duty in 95...Honorably dishcharged in 99....I had the GI bill and used it as a full time student for a 4yr degree (finished the degree in 3yrs by going summers if that makes a difference) I havent called the VA yet to inquire about it but was wondering if anyone had any insight or a similiar circumstance where they used their benefits for a degree as well as a type rating? It would be nice to know if its possible before talking to them. Thanks

I did a masters and 737 type. Call the Va they have all your remaining entitlements.

I also did my masters and 737 type. Make sure that the school you go to is one of the "qualified schools" for the VA. I used CPT in Houston. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies...how much of the tab did they pick up? Im guessing they pay the school directly and dont cut you a check...Also, is there a list of approved schools that you know of? Which one is cpt? I was hopeing to do one of those schools that you take the online course then show up for the oral and a sim...thanks for any info

My husband used it for his 737 type at High Power Aviation in Dallas. They will only pay 60% of the total (I think his type was around $7200). He did his type in December and we have YET to see the money. They pay out anywhere between 30-60 days after you complete the 737 type. FYI, High Power deals with the VA paper work all the time. They faxed over all the papers to the VA with in hours of completeing the type class.

I did Jet Tech in Phoenix. They are now called Pan Am Flight Academy. I paid $3600 of my own money.

I would go to Higher Power in Arlington. They have a luncheon where you meet folks from the SWA people department.

Sorry, I can't edit my previous post, Higher Power Aviation is what I meant. Also, you have to pay everything up front, THAN you receive your 60% of the cost back from the VA. Good luck!

The VA will pay back 60% of your 737 type provided the school is VA approved!! K&S Aviation in Phoenix deals with the VA all the time and will take care of all the paperwork for you. They also have a SWA Chief pilot visit each of their classes....

the two requirements that the VA makes when it comes to funding a type is that the school be VA approved (HPA is, not sure of the others) and that you have a current FAA class 1 medical when you attend training.

I got the 737 type at higher power aviation using VA benefits. They will take care of all the paperwork for you. You can even get your ATP written fees reimbursed if you fall within the correct timeframe. I did not. the VA will reimburse you for 60% of the training, that comes out to about 1500 bucks.

Dude, I'd get the VA on the phone if I were you. You got ripped off if you only got $1500 back from them. Either that or HPA is having a great sale on 737 types. When I went to HPA back in 2003, my a type cost just about 7 grand even. I got $4200 back from the VA (roughly 60%). If you only got $1500 back from the VA you either got ripped off like I said, or HPA is only charging $2500 for the type. I seriously doubt they are charging any less than the 7 grand I paid back in 2003.
