V1 V2

No reference books are with me. What is V1 and V2? Also, what flap setting is appropriate for instrument approaches in a Baron? Thanks.

V1 was the "buzzbomb" with the ramjet on the top. The V2 was the one that went straight up and used a rocket motor for propulsion.

However, it took me about 7-8 seconds to find an FAA definition here. A good resource by the way and citable as it's straight from the horse's mouth.

V1 means the maximum speed in the takeoff at which the pilot must take the first action (e.g., apply brakes, reduce thrust, deploy speed brakes) to stop the airplane within the accelerate-stop distance. V1 also means the minimum speed in the takeoff, following a failure of the critical engine at VEF, at which the pilot can continue the takeoff and achieve the required height above the takeoff surface within the takeoff distance.
V2 means takeoff safety speed.

I usually use 1 notch in the Baron...theoretically, full flaps from the FAF on a precision approach would be appropriate, assuming both engines operational.

To fly approaches in a baron, set the flaps to approach.

In a 55 I would use ~17 inches and 2300RPM. I would imagine a 58 is fairly similar.

It's this "approach" setting that's confusing me. How many notches is that? My sim has 3 notches.....I think. Thanks for the info. Like I said I have no references with me and no time left for the web.
