Sh!t happens! Swiss had one last week on a go-around. SW had one on an 800 that totaled the airframe. How many 321s does the west have vs. the east. How many sectors are being flown daily? How challenging is the approach/airport? What's the equipment variety (319, 320, 321) of those pilots?

Your reasoning reminds me of an arrogant check airman I met many years ago of a German-speaking legacy carrier who condescended to his southern European colleagues. Too bad they had to fish out the left-over parts of their MD-11 in the North Atlantic a couple of weeks later.

You are worng. The SWA aircraft you think you know about was not totaled .

Easties sure are defensive about this tail strike event. Some one please post that nice 20 foot tail scrape photo to swing the fence sitters on our early view in what we "think" caused this. The west has scrapped a few (N635AW) but no where near as many as your hull wreaking crews out East. What is it again 5 or 6 since the AWA merger to our zero? I love the ECAM defense...learn your systems before you post genius!!! Past V1 and it is time to go flying in 99.999% of situations...

I have seen the picture

They are inhibited during landing as well.

Most ECAM messages are inhibited during takeoff above 80 knots up thru 1,500 agl and then on approach from 2,000 to touchdown.
I will correct my statement - they occurred during landing rollout ie touchdown / landing - not approach

Just like a 12 step program, lets start with baby steps...Has the East ever screwed up a hull loss or is it always someone or something other than their fault? Your arrogance is what I am trying to vett out...

Interesting initial report. Makes the tail scrape seem even odder.

It may not make it odder. It might show that He may have hit Vr (because it's safe to say he went past v1) pitched up and come off the ground maybe 20 or 30 feet that some people have witnessed. He got the smoke/fire warning and grab the throttles and pull them to idle. You are already at a slow speed and high angle of attack and come slamming back down on the mains with that high pitch causing the massive scrapping the tail. At the same time he's pushing forward hard on the stick causing the nose to come slamming back to the ground so hard the nose gear collapses.

Again I don't know what exactly happened but to me it doesn't make the tail scrape seem even odder.
