Just read that, on top of all of the regular BULLSPIT we have come to expect from USAirways, it is moving (in court) to terminate its 800 aircraft cleaners... Now I know that JetBlue pilots and FAs clean their airplanes between flights, but that is because it was instituted as a rule at inception - it is part of the "lean" and productive culture of the airline (although I am sure most don't particuarly want to do it - but it is an accepted practice by now...).

So, will USAirways outsource this clean-up to someone else or will it impose this duty on the already poorly-paid and poorly-respected pilots and FAs? Having flown on USAirways recently, I wasn't particularly impressed with the cleanliness of the aircraft - it already seemed a bit dirty and very worn (even though it was a relatively new A319).

Clearly this isn't a huge deal except to the aircraft cleaners who could be fired before Christmas. I am sure the pilots and FAs could grin and bare it. What's next? Will the pilots be cleaning the lavs too?

If the airplanes are dirty now.....what have those cleaners been doing?

I've been commuting to work via USAirways alot. The planes don't look any more worn or tired than anything in anyone elses fleet. The one thing I have noticed is that a great percentage of the F/A's have started to shirk thier duties in the cabin, being very cold towards passengers. I watched one Male F/A stand there and watch and elderly passenger struggle to get her bag in the overhead bin when she was clearly having trouble. I stood up and helped her and he just turned and walked away. I know that with all the concessions their morale is at an all time low (understantably), but If it's so low that you are no longer going to provide decent customer service, just quit.

I hpe the unions stick it to the management there. I really believe that those in the IVORY TOWER in Crystal City believe they are the backbone of the company. Here's an example;

What if, two days a week, most, if not all, management employees just stayed home? They do, every saturday and Sunday. The company runs just as smooth, if not smoother without them there.

Just suppose that for two whole days, all the pilots, or flight attendants, or gate agents, or rampies stayed home. The Airline would be crippled.

So, maybe it's time that the employees stood up for themselves and STICK IT TO THE MAN!

I am concerned about the latest wage/benefits concession demands from USAirways management (clearly taking advantage of a sympathetic judge). The problem is that accepting lower wages/benefits now on top of all of these new work rules will not guarantee that more cuts will be not needed in the very near future... The cuts will continue until the wage/benefits bar is at 3rd-world levels. I really feel for the USAirways drivers out there.... What a crap situation to be in - and I hope you don't have to clean the lavs later on...

As has been stated before, UAir pilots and flight attendants could work for free and the company would still lose money. Their CASM is still among the highest in the industry. Unfortunately, squeezing labor is the easiest temporary fix for management, but it will not plug the hole in the this boat.

Cheers

BINGO! It seems airline management has come up with a new style of how to run the company! Have employee concessions make up for "low fare" air fares!
