Piedmont closed the ROA/ORF bases shortly before the USAir takeover. GSO/MIA were closed shortly after. Splitting hairs maybe.
 
A lot of profitable things Piedmont did went away with that merger.
 
I'm sure that Mesa has opened and closed more bases than any airline in U.S. history. Congress should take a look at that when they decide to poke their noses into airline work rules. As someone else said above, they wonder why people commute! GDFA's!
