Strike Ballots Go Out at US Airways
Friday November 26, 9:00 am ET CHAOS(TM) Promised if Contract is Scrapped

WASHINGTON, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Following up on its threat to launch a nationwide strike in the event that one of its contracted airlines abrogates its collective bargaining agreement, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA today mailed out more than 5,000 strike authorization ballots to its members employed by US Airways.

"This is a wakeup call to those in airline management whose greed has far outpaced its carrier's need," declared Patricia Friend, AFA international president. "Flight attendants will not passively stand by while their employers manipulate the courts to destroy our livelihoods. Enough is enough."

Two of the nation's largest airlines, United Airlines and US Airways, have asked federal bankruptcy courts for permission to unilaterally tear up negotiated agreements with their workers, terminate their retirement plans and attack medical benefits for retirees. In response to this threat, the AFA Board of Directors last week approved a resolution calling for a strike should management engage in this form of "self-help." Such a job action would be in the form of CHAOS(TM) (Create Havoc Around Our System), AFA's trademarked tactic of surprise work stoppages on flights, dates and locations of its choosing.

Talks between AFA and US Airways aimed at reaching a consensual agreement took place this past week and are continuing over the weekend.

Ballots are being prepared for United Airlines, ATA and Hawaiian as well. In the event of a strike, secondary activity may take place at other carriers.

More than 46,000 flight attendants join together to form AFA, the world's largest flight attendant union. AFA is part of the 700,000 member strong Communications Workers of America, AFL-CIO. Visit us at http://www.afanet.org.

*****Would be nice if they would realize that there are others who depend on USAirways too for the house payment, car payment, food, insurance. We all may not like it but it is easier to look for a job when you have one, then when you don't. Please don't give me the speech about we have to "stop the race to the bottom", somehow the bank doesn't seem to care about that*****

Well you can wait tables, stock shelves, paint houses etc. for the money you owe the bank. Unless of course you believe youre too good for that, because at the rate this is all going you will HAVE to with your full salary. Something needs to stop, and it needs to happen now...

Well said

It's about time that someone puts their foot down on the erosion of pay and benefits at the major airlines..My hats off to the USAir F/A's and all others who join their cause...Enough is enough..If management cannot work with the concessions already obtained, then "SHUT THE FKRR DOWN"

Is this the party line put out by ALPA pilot members also?

Its "wrong" for FA's to do this but "ok" for the pilots to do so?

Wait, wait, I am out of line. I forget that a B777 Captain at DAL "deserves" 300K a year and "should get it", he earns it. And by golly, if we dont get what we want, we are gonna go on strike. We are gonna don our uniforms and hats and walk around in holding patterns at the airport, in front of our passengers, some of who are blue collar workers flying to grandma's house, and "show unity" and "cultivate public support" for our cause. Pay cut? I make $200,000 a year! I am barely making it now. How am I gonna pay our nanny. My unemployed wife will not let me sell the Range Rover, you sh1tting me?

We are going on strike. This will cost our own employer millions of dollars in lost revenue. Yeah, that will "show them". Goddanm management, who the he11 are THEY to earn $1 million a year? It aint like they are running a fleet of 200 airplanes with 50,000 employees across the nation. I mean come on now.

Something about the pot calling the kettle black?
