Ok, I'm new to all of this.

I'm 21 years old, at a 141 school in Texas that hooks me up with an interview with Mesa when I am finished. I'll be done within the next month or two.

Just from lurking on this board for the last few weeks, I have had a few second thoughts about Mesa, and the airline industry in general.

From what I'm seeing, I can make as much money working for a gas station as I can working as an FO for Mesa. I've heard some horrible rumours about the Mesa contract, but don't know any specifics. Can anyone help me out on the details?

And I hate to hijack (is that a bad word in an aviation forum?) this thread, but I don't think it's worth starting a new one for a somewhat simple question.

Thanks for the help.

Mesa sucks big fat juicy donkey balls. I used to work there. Low pay isn't even the beginning. You are treated like SH-T!!! They junior man you to death, extend you to death, and just generally couldn't care less about your life. If JO could work you 1000 hours a month for minimum wage, he would. As is, you work 80 to 100 hours a month for the lowest pay in the industry!! AND NO BLOCK OR BETTER!! You are paid for SEGMENT TIME ONLY. Which means, if the average time to get from Chicago to Cedar Rapids is 40 minutes, you get paid for 40 minutes, and that's it......even if you sit out short of the runway waiting to take off for 2 hours, (which is the norm at Chicago O'Hell). Cancelled vacations are the norm. They will NEVER pull you off a trip for training, they'll do everything in the world they can to force it onto your days off to get you down to the contractual minumum 10 days off for a lineholder. Another thing they love to do, is to stick 1 day of reserve on a hard line, thereby making it a 'mixed reserve line', so they only have to give you 8 days off instead of 10. Your paycheck will NEVER be right, and it takes about a month per check to get them to fix it. It's ALWAYS lower than it should be. Oh yeah!! And we get to play MUSICAL BASES!!! They open, they close, they open, they close, they open, they close. Forget buying a house, laying down roots, starting a family.

I wouldn't recommend working at Mesa to the grand wizard of the most terrible Nazi KKK racist sexist horrible piece of $hit person in the world, because I think that they would be too good for that company.

I know, I know.....tell us how you REALLY feel. I can't because all you would see is **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**

Wipe the spittle off your mouth.

We all know Mesa is the worst regional. Take a breath.

I hope you're right. Get back to us when you actually achieve these goals... In the meantime, you folded like everyone else, so get off your high horse.

I voted NO, proud of that and make it clear too. Again the double talk of "vote this in and see growth and more growth" suckered in the majority of the junior pilots seeing new shinny jets arriving daily and a 4th stripe. Wasn't going to happen and never did.

At least you heard it from the horses mouth! :) I never knew Mesa was that bad. Although the Management appears to be bad, they have some great crews. I commuted on Mesa to work. CLT-STL-CLT They always worked it out to help me get on even though I was a AA Conx guy.
I wish you guys luck in your next contract!

That's the case pretty much everywhere... Luckily most of the fighting and name-calling we see so much of on here doesn't make it into real life. I've rarely come across any crew while commuting, deadheading or travelling for pleasure that was anything but polite and professional. I'm still thankful for the king's treatment I received from a United crew (esp. the FA's) when I was jumpseating a few months ago.

Blizzard,

One thing to keep in mind when making career decisions in this environment is that whatever regional you go to you will be there a long time. Regionals are no longer stepping stones. You may want to consider flying freight, charter, etc for a little while to build up some time in order to have a better choice of regionals.

Thanks, that's kinda what I was thinking.

I have met a few guys that fly for Mesa, and they seem perfectly nice, but have said a few things about how they are treated as well.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

Getting your own crew room would be a good start for your credibility. That United Nations crew room in Dulles is a joke. The fact that all you bottom-feeders even try to put yourselves on the same level as a good regional is laughable... youre not persuading anyone in trying to justify your pathetic contracts

Lets call it what it really is. The Dulles WHORE HOUSE!

Joke! JOKE!! (ducking for cover)

After reading this, there are a lot of similarities between MESA and Shuttle America. I am sort of ashamed to admit that.

Hey Ip you can have our fa's. We sure as he!! don't

Now come on man, some aren't that bad and don't require a double bagger or at least a 5th before the start of the night. Just think with ATW closing in the next 2 months all those seasoned 20+ years FA's floating around and bitching more!! Now thats cause to slam click!

Can't wait....Still can't get over the fact that fortress appleton will be leaving us. I don't know how those 146 girls will adjust to a small rj. Wait can they even fit in one.....lol

Yeah, I couldn't resist.

I'm sure I missed this somewhere on this board, but....how many aircraft does Mesa fly for USAirways Express and how many for America West and what's the breakdown for fleet and hubs?

Thanks.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
and....Rottweiller, I gotta disagree with you about our FA's, sure...some are OK, but I flew with one last week...ouch, my eyes. And that's been the norm lately, not the exception.

I mean, do we have to hire so many UGLY ones?

US Airways:
36 ERJ's
23 CRJS

America West: (these numbers are ballpark)
20 CRJ 200's
36 CRJ 900's
10 Dash 8's

(the America West airplanes arn't going anywhere as they are not in BK and are all on long term contracts) -Bean

some of those 20 year FA's are the coolest people you will meet. Same with the captains. Gonna miss appleton

Sadly same here!! Either 40+ or bone smokers it's a loose loose situation.

Maybe there is some hidden hiring standard for FA's so that the older ones will stay longer (more mature) and the pilots will leave them alone? Still it could be worse we could still be doing the long SBA's and the pool escapades wouldn't be the same with a grandma :D

Oh Jesus! I just got a visual...remember that nasty old bag in the movie Kingpin? I think she works for us now.

I just checked your schedule Rotty...you have a 4 day trip with her next week...all long overnights.

Bikini season is here!!!!! Good luck buddy...!!!

I would almost disagree with rott.. i took it more as "take these cuts and you might get to keep your jobs maybe..." There was not really much talk of growth when i went to the road shows

Beav,

I agree with you.

I attended two roadshows and I don't recall any talk of "growth" as a reason to vote for this concession. I took it as you did, this was for Comair's future, as in its preservation.

After much thought and discussion, I voted yes. I wasn't willing to become a martyr, yet. I concede, it was a humbling experience.

Although I place blame squarely on Mesa (or perhaps more specifically, Freedom), Skywest, and CHQ for our position, the name calling and bashing must cease. It is time to encourage and support those pilots to gain a contract that meets or exceeds the Comair contract in terms of pay tables and work rules.

I agree 150% with you, now is the time for UNITY. We need to start coming together to help each other out, we are all in this together. The tide is starting to turn. I have heard that the MAG MEC told the company to go to **** a couple of months ago when they were asked for consessions, thats a great start. WE all need to STAND BEHIND TSA right now in their fight against go-jets. We need to help out ASA in their efforts with the ~4 year negotiations.
