US proposes picture IDs for all pilots, students

I'm not opposed, but what's the point?

Who are we going to show it to, and what will it mean to them? What will it get us or the flying public?

If you're an airline pilot, you already have an ID (company and airport), probably a DL, a passport, FCC license, SS card (now there's a topic for you), Sam's club (?) how will this help anyone do anything when all the other ID's out there are intended to do the same thing? Is it more window dressing?
