Got the call on Monday. Anyone else?? Curious how big it is going to be? Heard anywhere from 8 people to 4 people to 10 people??

Please, no east v. west bashing! I get it! You all hate each other and have legitimate reasons on both sides! When sitting next to you up front, I will support whatever P.O.V. you have so we can move on to more important topics such as the USA Today, sports, women, stock picks, etc...

My class probably won't be starting till sometime later but, when I was at PHX training center, They had a class of indoc going on and there were both the new hires and recalls in there. Looked like there were about 20 people altogether in that room.
 
Congratulations. I had heard that a class had done indoc in PHX and then went to CLT for sim training. Have they told you were your training will be? Most of the classes I've seen in the past were around 12 people. I believe they'll run up to 20 if they're needed fast. Best of luck.

I don't think anyone of us actually "hates" the other side, we just have strong differences of opinion about what BINDING arbitration is. But on a lighter note, congrats! Welcome aboard. Regardless of what you hear and aside from all the antics everyone here is top notch, a great group of people that are trying to make this place work. And as far as the more important topics....

Most pilots here are considerate of others and will leave the USA Today on the plane. :)

For 08, any agricultural stock, the financial will rebound, new target price for Google is now 820 :eek: and my personal favorite AAPL, you just gotta own it in my opinion.

Congratulations. I think you're looking at it the right way, but just for the record, as a west guy I don't hate anyone. Disagree, yeah, but hate, no way.

Of which only 4 graduated. The other 16 were recallees who took the retirement settlement and resigned. My source for you "doubting Thomases" out there is a friend of mine who is our indoc instructor.

Hey E-Man.. How long did it take from when you applied to get the call for interview? Did your app. go from inbox to under review or whatever it does? OR did someone walk in your stuff?
 
Their retirement settlement consists of language in LOA 93. Depending on when they were hired, they receive a lump sum for returning from furlough.
Only has to be one day. I have heard between 10 and 18 thousand dollars.

Did they tell you which aircraft type to expect? I have heard that some newhires (non-furloughees) have been getting the E190.

When will newhires get the opportunity to fly out West (AWA slots)?

I applied in Sept when window opened. I heard a month later in mid Oct for interview. Interview on 11/7, got offer next week after and took about a month for official class date.

No one walked in anything.

They said expect PHL 190 for newhires. Recalls get first dibs on Airbus and other slots. My guess is that once recalls are complete, new hires will have chancs on a/c besides 190-that's just an opinion though.

The December 10th class had 4 recalls and 12 new hires. All new hires have been assigned the E190 in PHL. Systems and sim are all in CLT for the 190 and the new hires had been split up into three groups.

Three of the recalls went to 737 PHX and one went to A320 LAS. All recalls are now back and now only J4J guys returning at an unknown rate.

Pilot recruitment said there would be a class of 8 new hires in Jan and 24 in Feb.

I was in the Dec 10th class so I think my info is pretty good! For some reason the unions are spreading all kinds of wild numbers even while we were in class.
 
Buckle up, new hires (like myself). It is going to be a wild ride at US Airways for a long while! I'm still excited though.

I am looking at submitting my resume at US Airways. I have been a corporate guy my whole career. Will this be a negative, or does it not matter. My reason for looking at US Airways is the opportunity to move back up to the northeast. Presently in FL. Is BOS a hard base to get? Is commuting difficult while on reserve? Any insight would be appreciated. I am planning on sending in my package after my wedding in February.

Actually a week or so after the wedding he will no longer need his package.

If you newbies were smart, you would keep whatever resumes you have circulating with other airlines out there updated and active. Unless,of course, you thrive on nonstop turmoil..... Good luck just the same,though.

My reason for looking at US Airways is the opportunity to move back up to the northeast. Presently in FL. Is BOS a hard base to get? Is commuting difficult while on reserve? Any insight would be appreciated. I am planning on sending in my package after my wedding in February.

Boston is a little senior, but not as much as CLT. Boston is also not a very large crew base. Commuting sucks. Go with Netjets if you want a good commute policy!

Just received Fedex-assigned PHL E190.....

Hey PHX, it's better than the RJ roller coaster! 50-seaters are on the way out- the golden ride at CHQ et.al. will be halting within a few years.

Nonetheless, I'm putting my seat belt on........
 
To everyone recently hired or thinking about coming here, I'd make sure you keep plan B on the nightstand. I'm sure management painted a real rosy picture for you during indoc as they all do but do your homework and talk to the front line people (not just pilots). This place is going nowhere but downhill fast and there's no light at the end of the tunnel. We're already forecasting losses and the only way management here knows how to fix the balance sheet is by cutting personnel. The moral sucks and if you get assigned to the east operation you'll be working under THE worst set of workrules and pay in the industry. Still sound like "fun" and a step up? I know getting hired anywhere in this industry is a gamble but in my opinion this place would be a very poorly placed bet.

We have heard a lot about pros and cons about every airlines on this site.

So, let me take this opportunity to ask you a question for you all to ponder.

A lot of us have been in this business for a long time. And, because of the nature of the rigid seniority system we all signed up for, it is rather important for us not only to consider not only what's happening now but also , to the best of our abiliy, to try to think about 10 years, 20years in the future.

Based on your homework, could you shed some light on which airline you would bet on and why? Please try to be as specific as possible. (For example, management, their long term strategy, current and long term economic condition, politics (domestic and international), the nature of the current airline market and how you think it would change in the future, etc., etc.,)

I'm very aware of the not-so rosy picture....

Who's NOT forecasting losses/softer profits besides FDX and UPS-who are ceasing hiring with age 65????

My pay and work rules at CHQ are worse than Airways...

For me at least, it's still a step up.......

Any jump to mainline is a gamble....

I appreciate your insight, but it hasn't scared me yet. It's all about perspective and right now I have the chance for a much better future at Airways than CHQ. It's a gamble, but for me it's a well-calculated, educated risk.

If I was 10-15 years older, with a family, I'd think twice. But I'm not.... For me, this is a no-brainer of a choice.

Again, it's all about personal perspective and where you're coming from.....

1) Fed Ex and UPS-obvious
2)DAL or CAL- look strong for now but you will be in the right seat forever(at least it will be a heavy most likely). Both have a strong international route structure.
3)SWA- never furloughed a pilot, good income potential. Cons-737 for life, not hiring right now, younger pilot group, pay for the type.
4)NWA- gamble, but who isn't...oldest pilot group and least effected by age 65. Strong in Asian markets with lots of potential w/787 out of MEM- Asian Auto markets. Pay will probably get better w/new contract in 09(hopefully).
5) AirTran-stable but if you are going to fly a 737 for life then why not SWA w/better pay? Cons-contract issues, young pilot group.
6)United, US Airways-very risky. UA poor management(most are bad but UA seems to be worst). US Airways-could go either way but looks like east pilots are at their final breaking point. 190 Pay rates suck. Missed window to negiotiate reasonable payrates.
7)American-not hiring so I don't know what will happen.

This is just my opinion but maybe most will agree???
