Or a buyout? The stock price is cheap, the pilots not unionized thus stapling or anything else US Airways wants works, and it would prevent a forced merger with American.

It could be a four-way or five-way, buy out both Mesa and Skywest (many Mesa guys already going to Skywest), merge 'em with PSA, and have a juicy pipeline for B-Scale to replace retirements.

Heard the talk from a jumpseater who's on the negotiating committee.

"B-scale" what a pathetic thought....why bring down the industry even further?

The entity is Skywest, inc. And would have to include xjet, an ALPA carrier. A buyout has been a concern of skyw but they feel their strong financial position would discourage an attempt, their official position. Anything is possible though. We will just have wait.

Not having a union does not mean that US Airways could staple them.

True. But because of the size planes you have vs USAir's, you would all mostly be at the bottom. The NIC award (which the USAir East guys didn't like but still is valid) put the top 500 guys at USAir on the top of the US/AWA list because they had INTL widebodies, and AWA didn't. So, size and scope does matter. SkyWest doesn't have anything larger than a CR9, and USAir's smallest is an E190. So, it would probably look close to a staple. Or, they could fence off everything above an E190 for 25 years. (Robert's award with NWA and Republic. All 747s fenced for 20 years)

Bye Bye---General Lee

You all sure put a lot of thought and effort into something that will never happen.

Ah yeah, we'd want a ton of money losing RJs. Is someone going for dumbest post ever?

Well... you already HAVE a ton of money losing RJs (PSA, AirWhiskey) but beyond that, XJet's CR2s will be decimated in short order with Delta's TA. Profitable CR7/9s could be in the works to replace some of them. Either case, what's not to say SkyW/Xjet wouldn't just be operated like PSA/AirWisc are operated... owned by Airways, but not the same list or airline.

Either way, unlikely to ever happen especially since when you say SkyWest and quote their stock prices, you're talking about SkyWest Inc, not just SkyWest Airlines. This would include Xjet, as others have stated, which is unionized and still not a combined operation. Thus you'd be trying to merge USAir, AmericaWest, SkyWest, ExpressJet, and Atlantic Southeast all in one big messed up list. Talk about a nightmare! It would solve staffing problems but would create so many more problems.

Actually, AWA and AAA lists have already been merged...

It would be merging the SkyWest, Expressjet, and ASA lists with the Nicolau List.

Now I think this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard-but the last time I said that was the night before Pinnacle Airlines was duped into buying Mesaba. That being said, it is not American who is courting US Airways, it is US Airways who is trying to buy out American. They even got deals with the labor groups to strengthen their position. So this thread is all about US Airways buying sky west so they can avoid merging with American?

Know your facts people and stop dreaming. Now lets just say that Skywest some how came up with shiny new airplanes that were paid for that some larger company wanted to scoop with the pilots, now that would be a better scenario. But since they do not have that I am sure your leaders at sky west are looking into ways to make itself profitable in the future where 50 seaters will be gone, new hire right out of school pilots (with the min hours)will have their pick of places to go.
