ABC News NY just reported that ATC advised them it was possibly a bird strike. Whatever it was painted on their radar according to reports.

CNN--pax said heard a loud bang...plane shook...capt came on PA and said brace for impact.
Pax belives everyone got off.

WolF Blitzer talking to pax now on cell phone. He said heard a loud bang and saw smoke in cockpit. Said pilots told to prepare for impact immediately. Most pax didn't even touch water. Said all got off in 60 seconds. Amazing.
He's now praising the pilots for saving lives.

Airbus makes a really nice boat these days.

Glad no one was hurt-so it sounds like. It will be interesting to see what happened. Nice job to the crew and the first responders

Way too early to tell much but one thing is clear. Great fricken job getting that thing down in one piece in one of the most densely populated areas on the planet!
