I,ve been out of town for a week and have heard a few things on Fox-News about US Air leaving their Pittsburgh hub. I'm sure there has been discussions about this for the past week but I have not had internet access. And now, a whole week of flightinfo is missing. Does anyone have any info on the latest.

I did some research and was unable to find any links or related information pertaining to this. I do find it highly improbable and unlikely that Airways could pack up and jump ship "completely" although I guess anything is possible in this industry. Just walking through the airport the other day I was a tad amazed on how many "empty" gates that were there on the Airways one terminal.... seems like the airport is getting "slower" by the week. I can only hope that the airport can continue to grow and prosper and be around for many years to come since it is one of my favorites not to mention what it does for the local economy. AWA has been doing well on the PIT to PHX routes and have increased service...

I read the PIT Post on a regular basis and have not come across anything of this nature however they have mentioned possibly moving quite a few of the flights from PIT to both Charlotte and PHL. On June 1 they are displacing quite a few of the flight attendants that are sitting reserve in PIT so who knows...... They are also offering quite a few a voluntary furlough, a friend of mine has been there for a little over five years and is sitting reserve and is going to be displaced is she chooses to stay and ride the storm out.... I think there are just a tad that aren't overly happy with the "current PIT" situation.- should be interesting times ahead to say the least....

I do think that Airways will remain to be a very strong influence in PIT since it seems to work well with there route structure (atleast I hope so)

if you can list that link I would appreciate it so I can take a look at it.....

ps>> I cannot remember any discussion about the above topic or any thread about this although possibly it was mentioned right before the board crashed?

Fact is, US pulling out of PIT (as a hub) might be a good financial decision for the company. As much as it would suck for the community, the cost per passenger at that hub is far higher than the other two hubs.. Plus, why are three hubs in close proximity needed?

US Air Hubs

Of all US Airways' three East Coast hubs, PIT is far and away the best. PHL and CLT don't even compare in terms of facilities, not to mention that you have to walk 300 miles to get to a connecting gate at these two airports. I'll bet that at least 4 out of 5 USAir passengers, if they had a choice between the three, would choose PIT every time.

You're right.. PIT is by far the best of the hubs as far as passengers are concerned. Does that justify the large increase in expense over the other hubs?

PIT is by far the best out of the three, hopefully it will "remain" "one out of the three" for years to come... I am sure the county is going to do all in their power to ensure that Airways will remain a big influence in PIT. I seriously think that a "fair" deal by by both sides can be reached, time will tell I guess...

I think PIT works well with the Airways route structure...

AWA, DAL, UAL, NWA, and Air Tran all seem to be doing well out of PIT... If I remember correctly I think when I was with DAL that PIT was one of the better routes (with regards to load factors) from PIT to ATL.

hopefully the Airways "tradition" in P I T can continue for years to come.
