Head of man power planning (Marty Driscoll, I think) addressed our CLWS
class yesterday. There are 16 more to hire to complete the 300 new hires
they announced at the end of '04. They have not decided to hire anymore due to the unknows of any future work agreement.

UPSer,

After this latest bid closes nearly all the FE positions will be filled by "over 60's". Whenever the contract is settled I'm guessing approximately 2/3rds of the "over 60" FE's (100+) will bail. Did anyone ask Marty what the plan is for handling this eventuality?

Since the staffing is already very tight and the airline continues to expand, I can't imagine displacements to the panel. One would, therefore, reasonably conclude that off the street hires will be needed to staff for these positions. Initial FE training can last as long as 10 weeks, depending upon fleet. Please tell me there IS a plan???????

Are you guys overstaffed? I thought that UPS had some 747's on the way. Do you expect this number to change by the end of the year? Hopefully the poolies will get a shot.

Wondering the same thing as I am a new hire f/e subject to displacement...The company could find itself in a pinch really fast if the T/A is ratified and the over 60 fellers depart. My buddy (also a new hire f/e) asked his ACP and he had no idea...

ACP's are so far down the food chain you'd be better off getting your info from the van drivers (the ACP's will be the first to tell you so). With many, many years of buffoonery observation at UPS I can say (with some level of confidence) that "operations" is very aware of this problem, but Atlanta has never heard of it, much less authorized any additional hiring. Everyone in ops fears for their job and thus relays only positive projections, less they be the one to get the axe. It's an incredibly dysfunctional corporation on so many levels.

Labor (UPS) butts head with the IPA ... on time arrival performance plummets and the IPA takes out newspaper ads scaring the major shippers. Operations (NOT Labor) has to deal with the operational meltdown and sales (NOT Labor) has to reassure major shippers that all is well while trying to grow sales. Labor wants to show Atlanta what tough guys they are to get their annual bonuses. The CEO and the Board are the ones that ought to provide oversight and give direction, but they are too busy counting their extraordinary bonuses (50-250% of annual salary) they voted themselves to receive on top of their normal annual bonuses on top of their normal generous salary.

If ever there were a more dysfunctional organization of "yes men" all protecting their jobs, I've never heard of one! Disagreement at UPS equals disloyalty and anyone bringing up problems is quickly eliminated. The result is a corporate culture of "all's well" and nothing is ever improved.

When UPS pilots say, "UPS makes money in spite of themselves" this is what they are referring to. UPS has got to be the king of dysfunctional money-making juggernauts. I can only imagine how profitable UPS could be with competent management.

Wish it were different.

No we are not overstaffed. In fact the 8 panel guys have been flying more in the past few months due to all the upgrades. They(UPS) is in a world of hurt when they do settle the contract. Talk about being understaffed.

I have heard there will be another class at the beginning of June. I cannot confirm or deny it, but hopefully more will be pulled from the pool.

Still interviewing?

Anyone know if they are still interviewing? Or are they just going to take poolies for the next class.

Still floating with my phone at hand,
Chris

I don't know but I talked to someone in HR this week and they said we have 8 line pilot openings right now. Hopefully that will change really soon.

For a minute there I could have sworn you were writing about the Bush administration - then I woke up to the dissappointment of it being UPS.

Good luck to you all.

Hey B,

No money bags on this end. I wish it was $60 per glass. More like $125.00!!!!! I have a bar tab open still...

I met the lady who is the head of HR for the airline on my last trip, her
name is Laura Roybal, she is Phil Donohues boss. I asked her how many more line pilots they were going to hire. She said they are stopping at 2760 and that they only have about 20 more to go. I asked her how many more
management pilots they are going to hire and she said 2. She said that
there were 68 pilots in the pool

Still interviewing and if they score higher that the poolies, they will get a class.

I'm sorry, I was a bartender 13 years ago, I didn't account for inflation. In that case, I'll pitch in!

look a little closer...

apparently, UPSer (also known for multiple banned users) posts flame bait...which, i think, means the person posts in hopes of getting a reaction from you. Personally I wouldn't give his posts much thought, cred or consideration.

FLX757 calls him out quite often.
