I have a question for all you current UPS folks and interviewees:

What types of rec letters are good: from pilots or UPS management in non-aviation departments? I have a couple of the management types that are higher up on the food chain that have made contact with flight ops. I don't know what will come out of it, but you would seem to think that it can't hurt; or could it hurt my chances?

For those that have recently interviewed, what kind of letters did you have? Also, what kind of lead time did you have from interview call and the actual interview? Thanks for any help that you folks could give me!

A recommendation from a non-aviation manager, especially a senior boxhead, is probably the best kind of recommendation you can get. Remember, UPS is not an airline. It's a trucking company with planes.

All I had was one LOR from a line pilot. As far as lead time, I think it was about 2 weeks. Hope that helps good luck.

1800RVR,

I interviewed with UPS last week and the only LORs that I had were internal from several buddies. When UPS sent me the e-mail package, they specifically said not to bring LORs from friends, co-workers, or previous employers. They want internal recommendations only.

I had eight days notice from when they called me to my interview. Make sure you have all your stuff ready to go because it was very quick for me. Also, I received my invitation via e-mail.

Good luck.

I had 3 line pilot LORs and one management type from Atlanta. Everything I've heard is in line with what Freightnazi said. Good luck.

Pretty much what FreightNazi said. Although, there are a few exceptions to every rule. If all you know is a line pilot then still get a LOR from him/her. It's better than nothing.

Another question for those who've recently interviewed. How long did you have your stuff in before you recieved a call?

I interviewed in mid 2001 and was placed in the pool. I interviewed again in late 2004 and was hired. My stuff was in for several years before I was called in 2001.
