The physical was very straightforward. All the usual things you'd expect..blood work, urinalysis, hearing, eyes, ekg, and an exam by the doc. They called me Monday mid afternoon sometime.

Friend of mine just got the 'thanks but no thanks' letter Wednesday. I hated to hear that......he's a really good guy, sharp pilot. I can't believe he didn't get it.

Hey 1800 RVR, do all the cannonballs you want, I am looking for the wave pool so I can at least ride a few waves!!

Brown Cow, your words were uplifting. Still wish it I would have been put into class yestarday. I waited 6 years for the interview, so good things do happen to those who wait, or swim.

How about some bubbles instead?

Hey LLB,

If my fat butt doesn't make enough waves for you, I might be able to supply some bubbles for a "jacuzzi effect"! :D

All kidding aside, I've seen that you've been swimming for awhile. We'll get out of here someday!

May 16th Class

7 FOs (727/DC8) and 11 FE's (727/DC8) So far only about 5 names comfirmed in class (medical done, background started) but all 18 have been called and Med scheduled... Depending on how things go with those already called, other might get a last min call.

June class, I think 18 or more. Ive heard rumor that there might be some 3 eng heavy (Mr Douglas) right seats open for that one... Then again, things can change...

Hope this helps.

How long was it between his interview and when he received his rejection letter?

I believe it was around a month or so. I'm not really sure when he interviewed, but I can find out if you want. I do know for a fact he got the letter Wednesday though.

floater b2, Congrats on the medical (class to follow I assume). Always good to hear a poolie get the call.

BIGBROWNDC8, Thanks for the info.

Brown Cow, I'm only stating what the letter says and it definitely says "applicant pool."

Looks like we've accounted for about 10 poolies of the 40-80 in existence. Any more poolies lingering out there in the shallows?

Not to put a damper on your hopes, but a friend of mine was one of the guys in the pool prior to 911. He was in the pool for many years when ups was not hiring. He turned down good jobs because he was told that he was hired and just waiting for a class date. When hiring started back up a few months ago he, along with all the other in the pool had to re-interview. Only 5 out of 80 in the pool got called back. He was told that the guy that interviewed him 5 years ago is no longer in that position and the guy doing it now didnt want to hire anyone who he had interviewed 5 years ago.

I personally thing that is the lowest of the low and I will no longer use UPS for anything. That is no way to treat a person. (oh yea, your just a senoirity number there).

Been a while since I posted, class has kept me hopping, but wanted to post as a poolie who got called for the class. Took about 5 weeks to get the pool letter, 2 weeks in the pool and then the phone rang. Couldn't be happier and I hope all of you guys get calls soon. Waiting is definitely tough. Best advice somebody gave me was get ready, get your stuff in order, keep your medical updated and if you have spouse/kids spend as much time with them as you can because once you get down here for school, it's a little difficult to get back to see them. Best decision I ever made, very happy to be here and it's a great group of folks. Good luck to all of you and hang in there!

Another Poolie here. Interviewed mid Feb. with pool letter arriving March 23. Looking forward to seeing anyone get out of the pool who has been in for over a month. Good luck to all!

Yep, me too. #####? Been in lock down since Feb. interview and March letter. Good luck to all, eventually we'll get there.

Add another poolie to the count.

I interviewed the first week of Feb and feel very lucky to be in the pool. I know three guys, who interviewed around the time I did that are in class. I do know that the three had at least 2000 more hours than I had, so I'm sure that makes a difference when being selected for a class. Good luck everyone!

Does anyone know how many applicants are currently in the pool? What is approximate time from interview to class?

If I had to guess, I think the number would be closer to 80+ in the pool, I am not sure where the number 40 came from, but I dont think its acturate. Sorry, Not trying to be a jerk, Just wanting you all out there swimming, to know what the deal is...

Yes, pilots are getting called out of the pool. Based upon my conversation with PD a few days ago, UPS is still taking pilots out of the pool to go to class. I have friends that have been hired directly into class, others were given a class date after the decision board and others were simply put in the pool and have not gotten the call for a class yet. How all this is done, Im not sure.

If I were in the pool, Id Keep doing what I am doing, work on better LOR's from a Sr management person that is willing to get on the phone and make things happen for me, and last but not least, forget about UPS and hope and pray that one day they call... That way you dont drive yourself crazy waiting on UPS to call...

BBDC8: Would more pilot LOR's help to if you are in the pool (or just Sr. Mgt.)? Had only one LOR going into the interview but I could get more...

Also, has anyone who has been in the pool tried to interview again after 6 months to get a better interview score? Thanks for the info.
