Been away from flightinfo for awhile, but I'm back in the game again. Just got a pool letter from UPS and was wondering how many others on this board are swimming as well. Also wondering if anybody around here has actually been thrown a life line after entering the pool.
Thanks, AI
Yep I'm in... Going on a little over a month since I got the letter, 2 months since the interview. Lots of folks online in the pool and yes some people have gone to class.
lakelivin,
Thanks for the reassurance. I didn't know of anybody that actually left the pool for a class at UPS. I do know of somebody in the pool that started FedEX. I've had to tread water in the past and it was not a pleasant experience. Hope to see you in SDF soon.

I'm with you all and doing laps around the pool. I just got my letter on Sat (4/23). I'm sure that there have been people that have been in the pool that have gotten class dates, we just might not know about them. I have a feeling that there are a quite a few folks out there that don't post on here. Interviews must be continuing, but there hasn't been a lot of talk on these boards lately. I also don't know what to expect - I hope that we all get out of here ASAP.
There must have been a mass mailing from HR in Louisville late last week. A friend I met at the interview in mid-March recieved his pool letter this past Saturday. Mine arrived today. Good luck to everyone! Please share what you learn as time goes by and the pool is drained.
This is my first posting and I am a proud new member of the UPS pool. Does anybody know what a good interview score would be and what it takes to get out of the water?
I will chime in as another UPS poolie member (interviewed Mar 24 and got the official letter today). Will be interested to see how things progress. Good luck to everyone!
I just received my pool letter today as well and It's nice to be with you all. I interviewed March 1. Does anyone know how long the average person is in the pool?
Welcome everyone....I've been swimming in the pool since November 2004!!! Not exactly sure how the scoring system works. Sure would be nice to know how you stand....will it be months or years before you can retire your scuba gear!! Or worse yet....NEVER?!? Any info from anybody is appreciated!!!
I'm assuming we wouldn't hear from anybody that's been pulled out of the pool because they're busy with class etc and don't frequent these boards as much as the swimmers. However, if you look at the numbers of people being interviewed and hired combined with the meager numbers starting class in May/ June it is conceivable that most of us in the pool will drift further into the deep end. I've been in a first in/first out pool and that was painful enough, this pool will be excruciating for many. Read your letter closely, we've been placed in the applicant pool, not the hiring pool. Sorry to be such a dark cloud, but I just want to add a dose of reality. Did we make the cut or not? Unfortunately, I think that I will be updating my other applications today. Good luck to all.

I hope that number of about 40 is real. But how did they go from about 80 in the pool to 40+ while they are still interviewing?? I have hope I will get out and dried off in some nice warm brown cloths, but the hope is starting to get weak.
i have no idea if the numbers listed are acurate or not.
i do hear the folks are cont. to interview and call from the pool. plenty of new hires going to a variety of seats (75sdf/z a300, 72fe/fo dc8fe/8).
Thanks for the info fbt. I searched several old UPS threads and found that indeed people have been pulled out of the pool in the last couple months. My guess on the 40-80 in the pool discrepancy was due to the large volume of letters that went out last week. I just hope that Mr Donohue's comments of "at least" 11 in May and "at least" 17 in June prove to be estimates on the low side. Looking forward to drying off with a Brown towel.

Every corporate decision made at UPS is understated and "on the low end". It is refreshing to know that they don't just hire a whack of people and then furlough when they calculated wrong. The pool may be big, but we are only at 116 new hires, with at least 184 to go. Just sit tight, calls come out of the blue and before you know it, you are sitting in basic indoc. It will be worth the wait. Also, PD has too much experience doing his thing to just blow smoke up anyone's "!%$&#". There is no applicant pool, it is a hire pool, however after further consideration on a few candidates, they may decide to leave you just floating around. This, of course, is unavoidable, but it is not the norm. I am sorry, but many interviewees get a rejection letter....I've had my share at other companies, so if you get a pool letter, then be happy. Nobody is getting direct employment anymore, everybody has to wait until they sort things out. Plus, there is also a bunch of recurrent, upgrade, and sideways training going on which slows things down. They have to train those already making the money first, then they'll get you guys. Sit tight, be cool, be positive!!
Thanks for the pep talk. What you said is great advice. Sometimes it's hard to sit and wait, but I think we all will be in class sooner or later. I know that I just got into the pool, but I've got to believe that good things will happen. I am blessed to have made it so far. I'm sure it's worth the wait!
Now, watch out, I'm going to start doing cannonballs in the deep end, and if I get any of you, you've been given fair warning!!!!!
Are we allowed to wear waterwings in the pool? I already put lotion on and I think I might jump in the jaccuzi later. We should all have fun and stay out of trouble while wading. I am still wondering if anyone knows what the scoring system entailed and what kind of score would be good enough to get out?
Not sure how the scoring system goes but I just got back from doing my physical today. Got my pool letter last Saturday and a call from HR on Monday to go do my physical this week. Not sure if that means I'll be in the next class or not but the next class, according to Phil Donahue is on May 16th and will have a minimum of 11 people and could have as many as 17. It will be a mix of 727 and DC-8 FO's and FE's. The next class after that will be on Jun 13...not sure how many people will be in that one. Good luck to everyone!
