At least as many as 2005, with rumors of close to double that amount with outbased training. Probably a lot depends on how many over 60 guys retire with the new contract.

NeedAPayRasie,

First I love the little picture next to your screen name!!! I hope that the hiring includes pulling out the guys who are swimming in the pool.

LLB- glad to see you are still alive. No new news yet?

Yes, it looks like they will hire 1200, and the pay is good as well.

UPS wants to hire 1,200 holiday workers here

By DAVE HIRSCHMAN
Published on: 11/30/05
An avalanche of holiday packages is prompting UPS to hire 1,200 seasonal workers in metro Atlanta, the company announced.
The positions pay $8.50 an hour and will end at Christmas, but holiday workers may apply for permanent positions after Dec. 31. Prospective workers should apply and schedule interviews online at upsjobs.com.

  • The Sandy Springs delivery giant expects to add up to 60,000 temporary workers nationwide as package deliveries surge 43 percent to 20 million a day as Christmas approaches.
UPS also is adding about 7,000 rented trailers to its fleet of 88,000 vehicles during its peak delivery season to increase capacity.
In Atlanta, some brown UPS vehicles are towing U-Haul trailers.
"We add a lot of people and equipment between Thanksgiving and Christmas," said Norman Black, a UPS spokesman. "We're also adding 24 or 25 large jet aircraft on a temporary basis."

Hello V-Stall,

yes I am still alive. No news. I do check to see if my file is still active on UPS.com and it is as of today. Well I as in the others who are here with me in the pool will hope that 2006 will be our year.

LLB!

Hey LearBoy, how long have you been swimming in Brown? I am now at the 4 month mark. Heard the next classes will be in February, so another 2 months to go, minimum :(

It's good to see you poolies are stiil out there. LLB, V-Stall and others. Just hanging out in a SDF crash pad with friends, wishing I was one of the chosen ones. I hope the class sizes get bigger next year. Rumor has it that the pool is almost empty, but we all heard that one before.

Last I heard there was about 50 poolies left.....might still be awhile. I am thinking March until the current pool is drained....

Hello My fellow poolies brothers,

I am just doing a quick 6 month check in the sim down in ATL. Delta has some nice gear here! Let see I have been in the pool since Jan 2005. V-STALL, Bohnzai, few of us left that are in the pool and in the this web site. I hope the count about 50 is true. I hope even more UPS pulls us out! I hope for many things, but most never come true. So if anybody has a closer bond with the "all mighty", please make a request to pull the plug on this pool and we are dried off with brown towels just before class starts.

LLB

LLB,

2006 is our year I can feel it! They will drain it for classes in Jan-Feb so it can be filled again for the new year. I may be kidding myself (my downfall is my never ending optimism). When that water level reaches the scum and sludge near the drain they will find me waiting with a smile on my face.

Chog,

FYI- Been in the pool since Feb 05

Chog & Bohnzai,

I hope 2006 is our year. I think at the rate I am going I will be with you shoulder to shoulder on the bottom of the pool. I have been in the pool since Jan '05. And please don't foget about asking 'the man' up stairs to help us out. I used to have a direct link, but it left.

I heard from a UPS bubba, that there is no classes at all in January except for the management pilot hires....maybe Feb. is our month....

Latest rumor is getting 7-8 747-400 pax to cargo conversions for delivery in 2006 and 757 pax to cargo conversions to allow 767s being used domestically to be redeployed to international routes. The next system bid due out late this month or in January is rumored to have around 80 new captain vacancies.

LLB- I bumped into a pilot today that has an interview scheduled for Jan.(not a mgmt pilot). This should be good news I hope for you guys that are still swimming. Either the deal is;

A. They are going to drain the pool and have to fill it back up.
B. They are sticking more people in the pool and adding to the current numbers.
C. You guys are the last in the dingy brown water all the way at the bottom of the deep end, and they are finally going to clean it out!

I'm pushing for C!!:erm:
Don't give up guys, you've made it through the tough part, it's going to happen soon!

V-Stall,

I have to be honest I do not think any of the three choices you have put up will happen. I think they will just keep doing what they are doing. And that is interview, put a score next to you name and move on. The pool has been around for a long time and will still be in play next year. Like the rest of us in the pool, I will just sit and wait. But I will not put my life on hold for it.

Thanks for the info and the motivation. Burned out with pool.

LLB

Keep the Faith

LLB, Bohnzai, and Chong!

I just wanted to toss this out and say that I am also still swimming in the pool. I have been in the pool since April, and I understand about the interview score next to your name. However, I also understand that I cannot do anything to change it, and as a result I am able to go into each day and not wait for the phone to ring. When it does I will be pleasantly surprised!

For the month of Dec. I am flying a peak run into SDF and sitting in the hub at night has made me realize that when I do get the call I will apprecaite the opportunity that much more! I agree with Bohnzai I believe that 2006 is our year! Keep the faith and know that you are not swimming alone!

It took me about 5 months to get over that stage.

Middle of this month with be 1 year since I interviewed.

Keeping what faith I have above the water.

Hang in there, guys!

Hey, we haven't forgotten about you guys! From the little tidbits that I've heard in last week or two, only mngt. pilots are being interviewed, and the I think the last 8 people put into the last 2 classes, 6 were mngt. and 2 were line pilots. My numbers may be a bit off, but you get the picture. With peak here, contract talks, etc., it'll probably be into next year (Jan is my guess) before newhire classes resume like they were before. Again, your results may vary. HR is being very tight-lipped about all of the nembers for next year.

All I can say to my poolie buds is that when you get down here, we'll take care of you. Bohnzai, LLB, DR - enjoy the holidays! Hopefully y'all won't be working, like me! Then, when the New Year's hangover disappears, you'll get the call (hopefully).

Semperfido - GREAT avitar! Great looking golden; yours? Mine is almost 3 years old.

Question for those already there...

For those of you already at UPS I have a question about competitive mins.

I have a few years of piston flying and six years of part 121 time- a little over 6000 TT. I was just recently typed in an RJ last summer- only a few hundred of PIC turbine. I really like UPS and have thought about gettting a part time job there sorting bags/etc. if it would help get the foot in the door.

Does anyone know if this would be a worthwhile endeavor or get you an interview any sooner?

Thanks for any input!

From my point of view, it will not help you get an interview, but will help you in the interview. There is no getting around the LOR's you need to get you in the door.

Here's some info I read from another forum, so take it for what its worth.

Last class for 05 was today Dec 8th.

1 747 FO
1 A300 FO
8 DC8 FE
1 A300 management pilot

For 2005, 244 new hires were placed in class. They have 2 classes for next year so far, Jan 3rd (5 pilots) and Feb 14th (class of 6). Again, take it for what its worth, it is always subject to change.
Interviews are supposed to pick up again early next month. I just hope they drain the pool first. LLB could be right. If they continue to interview people who "score" higher than us in the pool, then we could be waiting a very long time. Rats!

Dog Rocket,

I thought you died on us! It's good to see another one still hanging on.

By the way, waiting in the pool for a year is not uncommon. I spoke to two UPS captains a week ago, and they both floated for a year in the pool back in the late 80's. I asked them why? and they had no answers. It's a mystery to us all.

Some people waited over 3 years in the pool after 9/11 and had to re-interview to get the job (I know one who got flushed after the second try). I hope it doesn't come down to that for any of us, but who knows.

Got the call! Jan 3rd FE class for me. Gotta call back Monday to schedule the medical for this week....one last hurdle to cross to become Brown!

Yes!!!!!!!!!!

No classes at all in January huh! Congrats Chog that's awsome news!! That has to feel good knowing you are on your way. It gives us pool scum some hope that we too will someday find salvation. Good luck.
