UPS - hiring question

Why don't they interview for positions that are open and to fill class dates rather than just have a huge pool of people? I know a guy who was called, interviewed and in class within a month, this year too. What's the point of interviewing people to have them wait for a year or two while others get right now?

Oh boy, that’s a question that’s been asked many, many times; just look at some of the threads below…

No one really knows why except that during your interview you get graded on your HR eval. and your sim eval. That along with your flight experience, check-ride history, background checks, etc, etc becomes a “number” which then decides when you’ll get the call for a class date - the higher the number the sooner you‘ll hear from them.

I don’t think the pool is large per sig, it’s just that each time someone interviews and “scores” higher than another pilot who's already in the pool, this person gets the call before the person who’s already been waiting.

It’s called “competitive” pool I believe and it has been in effect for years; but I am not sure what the advantages are? I’ve met two pilots who were “long-term” poolies (one was in my class) and based on my observations of the two I think anyone with a great personality and a good sense of humor will end up in the “long-term” pool. :(

For those of you in the pool - especially the long-term prunes – please don’t give up, the wait is worth it!

Hey guys. I'm a CA over at ExpressJet and have wanted to work for UPS since I was in college. In fact, I worked for them during the night before classes for 3 years just to get an "in" with the company so that I could fly for them when I have the flight time. I now am getting close to the flight time requirements, but they just added the trans-oceanic thing. First, any idea if that requirement is around to stay or was it just to thin out the applications on file? Also, where would you guys suggest getting that type of experience? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks again.

Transoceanic...

Preferably, an outfit that'll type you in either the MD-11 or 744 during initial. Gemini for example...

Other than that, anywhere you can...

Try www.airlinepilotcentral.com for some better input as to whether or not the transoceanic requirement is around to stay. The general consensus is that it isn't.

I agree with 2LT - Gemini, Kalitta, Omni, North American, World (same company now I guess?), etc, etc.

The rumor is that they will drop the transoceanic requirement but I bet you it'll still be the "preferred" experience for years to come...Good luck to you!
