UPS Hiring Pool Letter, Anybody Else?

If calls started to go out last Tuesday, I am thinking if you are looking to put say 15 people in a class, it should not be hard to get 15 return calls in a week. Looks like class if FULL!

Don't give up the faith just yet. It took them over 2 weeks to make all of the calls for the Feb 21st class and it was a smaller class.

I updated my resume and a friend on the 75/76 resubmitted an recoomendation. How long is it taking to maybe hear back for an interview. Any suggestions on getting the interview other than resume and recom. I called HR, left a msg. Should I keep trying every few weeks?

My husband interviewed today with UPS but was not asked to stay for the medical tomorrow. He felt he did well in the sim and with the interview. Has anyone been hired without staying over for the medical?

Unless you have a current UPS employee fill out a recommendation for you on the internal ups website you will not get a call.

If I find out anything these next couple weeks I'll keep you informed. I'm going to the middle east tonight so I'm expecting an email from UPS for the March class. I talked with Paige the HR lady at UPS to see if it would be OK if I went on this 2 week trip to the sand and she said - Your not in the Feb class but your looking good for the March class. I hope she is correct. She also implied that there may be a smaller class at the end of March with 5 pilots in it.

T 2, Safe trip downrange. Which number did you dial for Paige? I've got a similar problem in March now... workable but I need to give the squadron some answers about trips/conferences.

We've had several folks get hired where I'm based and here's the averages.

1100-2500 Heavy Jet PIC
2700-5000 Total time, Heavy Jet
Instructor/Evaluator time for most
3-6 LORs from line pilots
All had some type of management LOR as well

These numbers will obviously be skewed as I'm based at a place that only flies heavies so those are the types of folks I know getting hired. I've talked with several ERJ drivers that have been hired as well(Captains), and corporate folks. Most of them were in the 4000-5000 hour range, some less, some more. Also had LORs, but not all had management LORs. My advice is when you get close, start getting creative. You'd be surprised who your UPS driver may know, ask everybody you know if they know somebody at UPS, basically network hard. Again, I'm no expert, this was my only airline interview, but based on everybody I've talked to, which is alot, that's how folks stacked up. Good luck.

Thanks for the info and God's speed overseas. Just a note about deployments: When I interviewed in Nov they offered me a Jan slot, but I was unavailable (due to a deployment) until late Jan so I had to pass it up. I was more or less lead to believe that I would most likely be in the Feb class, but here I am waiting on a call. I don't know if I am getting penalty laps for that or not, but I thought I would pass it on. I am hopeful for the next class. Hope this helps with your deployment plans.

Would you recommend I call Paige or email? I called them when I returned from my deployment and I got another training "teaser" comment, but I have yet to get the official call.

Any words are much appreciated.

Yes, I got my official pool letter but I have not yet taken my physical. So, there is hope.

Had 7500 hours, mainly international,most all heavy jet
5500 PIC heavy jet
Military Instructor/Evaluator, Chief pilot
5 LOR's from line pilots

Another interviewee with me that day had all civilian time, 4000 hours, typed in 757/767. I don't think Brown looks for any one type of pilot, seems they are looking for a broad pilot group from both civil/military, small and large jet backgrounds. The recommendations are key for getting a call, they were pretty upfront in the interview about that. Hope this helps.

Good advice on the deployment stuff. I'm definitely going to work my schedule to be available for both dates in March. Considering calling Paige because if I'm definitely not in the March class there's no reason I couldn't head to the box. If I do call, I'll pass on any INTEL I get.

Let's see, ringer's on, plugs in the wall, paid my bill this month, dial the home phone from my cell to make sure it's working, dial my cell from home to make sure it's working...basically my phone's only ringing when I check to make sure it rings, my wife thinks I'm crazy, she may be right...was that the phone?

I just got the pool letter this week too. I had my interview on Jan 24th stayed for the medical the next day. Glad to be swimming.

8,000 hrs.

A non-pilot manager recommendation is actually the best kind to have. Remember UPS is NOT an airline.

I had only one LOR from a pilot at UPS. As far as the 31 year career ya not bad.... I was not the youngest hired that day there was another person hired that was 27.

Just to make things perfectly clear, you are NOT "hired" until you show up for the first day of indoc. There were supposedly some people that were in the old pool that thought they were "hired" too, and when UPS started hiring again late last year were brought back to reinterview and for whatever reasons were not "hired".

During the interview Rod started out by checking my logbooks and paperwork while Paige asked the first few questions. Then the last part of the interview Rod was asking the questions and Paige was taking notes. Also there were times when they both talked about UPS values and about Jim Casey and how his book still applies today in our times.

LOL! afpa ... you're one funny dude. I've been in your shoes and (thankfully) it is more enjoyable to read these posts than live them as all of you. Your enthusiasm and eagerness to begin your airline career (and just have a steady freakin' job with a carrier that looks like it'll survive beyond next week!) is infectious. EVERY IPA member is eager to welcome you and all the other new hires aboard. You are being hired at the leading edge of a wave (approx 1000 over the next 4-5 years ... my guess) and I base those numbers on acft acquisitions, expansion and retirements.

Now ... if you like to drink beer (but of course!), surf, workout, ride bikes, and stare stupidly at bikini clad bulimics on waikiki, then I'll enjoy your company all the more on a trip in the future! I know, I'm a very simple man as my wife reminds me! Best wishes to all new hires and applicants ... I'm confident you'll enjoy your career here.

On another note, when I find out which one of my "buddies" is calling me from the Holiday Inn on Hurstborne in Louisville (502) area code, I've got two words, payback baby!! For now, I wouldn't recommend any of you guys drinking out of your coffee cups when you get back to the squadron! Hope you guys are having fun out there and hope to see you in March.

Hale Koa? ... anytime! ... but actually we've made the unofficial IPA home at Chuck's Steak House above Duke's (between the Sheraton Moana Surfrider and the Royal Hawaiian) ... 15% discount ... let 'em know you're a ups'er and they'll welcome you like a relative (Bob, Lawrence, Jetson, Sean (mgr)... show up any day around 5pm and there'll be a group of UPS pilots at the "usual" table on the lanai overlooking Diamond Head and the "scenery" parading below!

You will not find a group that supports probationary folks better than the IPA members period... Having been there in 01' I was absolutely amazed by how "all" crew members took care their own both in the air and on the ground especially! I hope to repay that to any first year fellow "freight dog" I have the honor to fly with (as an IRO or meet on a layover) as well! I echo the "Big Beer Belly" it will be on me!!

Hello brother and sister poolies:

New to the forum, Interviewed mid Jan. Did the medical and got the pool letter. Only thing I have to report is that my instructor friend told me the training center is at max capaciy and that may have a negative effect on new hire classes. I have been unable to get any solid intel on how the whole scoring thing works, if at all. Does anyone know of anybody being passed up in the pool for other than voluntary reasons? A friend of mine interviewed a week before me and ended up in the Feb 21st class.
