How many DC-8s are left in the UPS fleet. Anyone on this board fly them? Very cool machine. Someday, if I'm lucky..................:D

UPS has around 47 DC8's. We sold a few and chopped a couple up. I think we have few in storage also. At one point UPS was trying to retire the whole fleet, but the puchase of Menlo and the reduction in the A300 deliveries gave the fleet new life. I bet we still have them 10 years from now.

Our DC8's are very well taken care of. We have EFIS, dual laser INS's, EGPWS, GPS, GE CFM 56 engines and TCAS. I find them to be a challenge to fly. The best part about them is the 3 man crew and 4 engines.

Thanks for the info!

Did you start in the FE seat? That must be one interesting panel. Did you get to choose the diesel of were you assigned to it.

I am not worthy......

When the last Bus retires, UPS will fly it to Roswell in the back of a DC-8.

The 727 will be the DC-8's hot spare.

I don't think this hunk of machinery will ever die. They built these things like tanks!

That's a biased opinion :)

Seriously though. Those DC-8's are double riveted and have no life limit for cycles on the airframe. It is one solid machine. Try flying it without aileron hydraulics for a workout!
