It's amazing that these aviation consultants and reporters, so called experts, don't take the time to visit the Boeing web site and see that there is no such animal as the 747-800.

To be fair, I believe there was a time when 747-400 was known as 747-4. Also not too long ago B787 was known as B7X7, wasn’t it?

What's the difference between the -400 and -800 (or -8)? It is just newer avionics or also a bigger body or more container positions or what?

Yes the 787 was known as the 7X7. Many experimental's use an "x" as a prefix or suffix. The press always (ok...usually) correctly identified it as a 7X7 until Boeing decided on 787. It just amazes me that so many aviation "experts" don't take the time to do any research. Just like the FI poster that asked what the difference in the 747-8 was. He obviously has some spare time and a computer but he's to lazy or stupid to go to the Boeing site and research it. Reminds me of myself when I was a young kid; it was easier to ask the spelling of a word than to look it up myself.
I never remember seeing the 747-400 as a 747-4. Maybe you've thinking of 744, ie. an 800 series 737 is sometimes referred to as a 738.
Does it show that I'm bored? D@mn Osaka worthless 1 english language channel p.o.s. television!

hmmm.... I thought it was known as the 7e7.

You're right, I was wrong. I knew there was a letter there somewhere just couldn't remember which one? lol
