Looks like UPS again follows the lead of FedEx in aircraft types. Now we just need to sell them som MD-10s.

UPS orders 10 Airbus A380 super-jumbo freighters
Mon Jan 10, 2005 02:49 PM ET
NEW YORK, Jan 10 (Reuters) - United Parcel Service Inc. said on Monday it has placed an order for 10 Airbus A380 super-jumbo freighter planes to expand its capacity to accommodate strong international growth.
The world's largest package delivery company said it has amended a previous order for A300 planes. Deliveries of the A380s are scheduled to begin in 2009 and run through 2012. The purchase price of the aircraft was not disclosed. UPS has not yet made an engine selection for the A380.

UPS Solidifies Its Role As The Premier Aircraft Junkyard!

Nice fleet composition (commonality ... DOH!, what's that?)

727,747,757,767,DC-8,A-300,MD-11 ... and now another French turd the A-380!

Here's the kicker ... as if 8 different models of aircraft aren't enough, here's why UPS will buy a 9th: original order was for 90 A-300 with 60 options (150 total). This has since been renegotiated and reduced to 53 deliveries total. That's 37 WIDEBODIES short of their original forecasted need. The 10 A-380's are destined for long international trunk routes, not as replacement lift for the missing A-300's. So ... they'll have to announce more aircraft purchases to cover the missing A-300's. Since it would make too much sense to purchase more 767's or Md-11's ... who wants to bet they buy another completely different aircraft type? Anyone know of a good deal on some really old, beat up L-1011's?
