Contractors

This affects World, CAT, Express.Net, Aero Union, Kitty Hawk, Kalitta II, and Cargo Jet(Canadian)...I think that's everybody. This will hurt CAT and Express.Net the worst as they have the largest share of airplanes and crews working out of the DAY hub. It was a pretty glumy atmosphere this morning. After working out of the hub for about three years now, it's amazing to see up close how many people this is going to affect. Everyone from security to the cafeteria cooks and cashiers to the ramp rats and mechanics as well as the growth of the airport as a whole. That hub has been running for a long time and it'll be sad when the last day comes.

This isn't really anything that the contractors weren't expecting. Most of the pilots were hoping to fly at least 2005, maybe a little more. The contractors will possibly downsize, furlough for a little, find new contracts and move on, like they always do. This news is bad for all the people who work in the hub.

They'll eventually find work flying for DHL. Since our scope is dead (and probably ABX's too) due to ALPA national and ABX managements litigation, I'm sure DHL will hang out the welcome mat. See yall in ILN.
