Big surprise. UPS buys company, greases employees' bunghole (with grease supplied by each employee), thinks employees should be thankful that they at least used the grease, then a couple of quick thrusts to the rectum and over the side they go.

All the time believing that what they did was ok. More than ok. It was "right".

I guess Dayton will become a ghost airport. Where are all of the contractors going to go to find work now?

Obviously, this is good news for UPS pilots (company agrees this flying falls under our scope)... and not exactly what the contractors were hoping for. No one wishes any hardship on the contract pilots. Many here started out as contract pilots, but it's the nature of a "contract" business relationship that some day "the contract" will end.

I truly do wish everyone well and am sorry for the hardship some will no doubt face as a result of this news. This business can really suck at times.

FDB ... your graphic depiction was well ... reminds me of a few prison movies!

Who will be affected by this announcement?

Which contractors operate out of this hub on behalf of UPS?

I don't think anyone officially operates on behalf of UPS in Dayton. But, anyone who is currently operating out of Dayton on behalf of the old Emery/Menlo contract will be affected.

Which contract carriers would that be? I think Custom Air Transport does some work up there, but I'm not really sure.

I'm fairly certain World, Express.Net, CAT and Capital Air Cargo operate out of Dayton. I don't know for sure if they are the only ones.

Contractors

This affects World, CAT, Express.Net, Aero Union, Kitty Hawk, Kalitta II, and Cargo Jet(Canadian)...I think that's everybody. This will hurt CAT and Express.Net the worst as they have the largest share of airplanes and crews working out of the DAY hub. It was a pretty glumy atmosphere this morning. After working out of the hub for about three years now, it's amazing to see up close how many people this is going to affect. Everyone from security to the cafeteria cooks and cashiers to the ramp rats and mechanics as well as the growth of the airport as a whole. That hub has been running for a long time and it'll be sad when the last day comes.

This isn't really anything that the contractors weren't expecting. Most of the pilots were hoping to fly at least 2005, maybe a little more. The contractors will possibly downsize, furlough for a little, find new contracts and move on, like they always do. This news is bad for all the people who work in the hub.

They'll eventually find work flying for DHL. Since our scope is dead (and probably ABX's too) due to ALPA national and ABX managements litigation, I'm sure DHL will hang out the welcome mat. See yall in ILN.
