UPS and College Degree?

Just curious if one needs the degree to get in the door at UPS. I know they are
not hiring right now, but just trying to get all my ducks in a row.

Pre 9/11, A college degree wasnt required. Its all about who you know and who recommends you at UPS. Of course all the military guys and most the civs have them, but there was a person in my class who didnt have one. They must of had a great recommendation...

As far as what we will be looking for once/if we finally start hiring. its anyone guess...

I made it without college. Pre 9/11 with 3 LORs from line pilots.
My recommendation to all...get the college.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Chief, but SWA, AirTran and Jet Blue don't require a degree, and they are doing most of the hiring right now.

If you already have an associates degree, busting out a bachelors would only require about a year and three quarter's of sacrifice behind a computer. Look into it. I know it can be a hardship to have to take away time from the family to do so...but it can only open doors for you. Especially considering the flight times you have. Good luck to you!

Thanks to all who replied. However the problem I am dealing with is "0" college. No associates or anything, but yet have a great position within the company I currently work for. However, I have always wanted to work for UPS, and hope that someday that will happen. Maybe 3 LOR's from line pilots will help when the time comes.

Could a correspondence course be something for you? It’d probably take you 6+ years to complete a degree this way. However, if you do get an interview they might be impressed with your efforts to “better” yourself, especially having a fulltime flying job. On your resume, you could put “expected B.S. degree August 20xx.” Just a thought, good luck 2 u. av80r

Back when we were hiring, many line pilots I talked to then said that their recommendations to HR seemed to be a kiss of death to an applicant. For some reason recommendations from line pilots don't seem to go very far with HR. Now on the other hand, a recommendation from a manager, especially a boxhead type, that's what really carries a lot of weight with HR.
