Can any of you FA types tell me which airlines will let servicemembers upgrade to First Class for free on a govt purchased(official travel) ticket if room is available? Thanks in advance.

That would be a question best asked to a ticket counter, gate agent, or reservations agent.

Generally speaking, flight attendants do not have the authority to upgrade a passenger. (I'll repeat, *generally speaking*!)

Your best bet would be to call the airline in question, or ask at the ticket counter/gate at the airport.
