Could anyone give me a heads up as to typical expected upgrade times at Expressjet????............Currently kicking and clawing away for that 600/100, hymen breaker............Any new aircraft arriving on the scene?????

1 year to 100 years. Who the heck knows. Currently it has been around 4 years. That could change tomorrow to 60 days or could go to 10 years. You can't count on anything in this industry other than it will always change. Don't go to a company because you are expecting a quick upgrade. I have heard 2-3 years recently but again who knows.

I heard a rumor that if you got a 2005 class date you could be sitting reserves for 2 years? any truth to that? i hope not

Just had to size my avatar to yours.....But hey you fly bigger birds:)

Reserve time is likely to be very short in all domiciles.

However if you were hoping for an early class date you will probably be disappointed because FLYi are about to get preferrential interviews. That will stop the low hours problem.

Is this fact or just a rumor for now? I have a friend at FLYi looking to join us.

Turned em down last week. I can make more money flying night freight.

.Why not post your interview experience for others to learn from. You know, some gouge.

Not many are offered the position and decline the offer so youmust know how to successfully interview. Lots that are notoffered the position are not sure why they were not offered theposition but youarein the unique position to provide positive feedback.

After all, we did offer you the job, didn't we??

PS. How did you like our training center?

Because when I applied, I wasn't competitive anywhere else. Now that I am, there is no reason to pimp my self out at the stupid low wages they are paying.

in all due respect first year wages sux second are'nt too bad but the schedule makes up for it. depending on your bills its manageable. lots of time to work on the side doing something you enjoy with time still for relaxing. I do construction on the side and appreciate the relaxing job of flying. im glad i dont have to hump steel for the rest of my life...i also wouldnt want to fly every day either

I apologize for the "pimp" comment, but I can't afford to leave a $25,000 a year job for a <$20,000 a year job no matter what the schedule or equipment is.
Yeah, I would love to fly jets for an airline, but until the regionals get thier first year pay up, I simply can't afford to take the cut.

you can make 25k in the first year...or very close to it...probably close to the upper thirties the second, which offsets the first but i hear you it does suck to even think about it. If someone paid me 50k a year to fly a 172 with 15 days off i would do it. I could care less about flying a shiney jet...most of them are disgustingly dirty anyway.

Go fly freight for a year, find out what that life is really all about, and you'll do the same thing I did. The last three months I've had 17, 19, and 19 days off. There is nothing in this world more important than "me time".

So where are you going to get the big bucks so you don't have to "pimp" yourself?

How about NEVER unless we get some additional airframes. Last jet scheduled to arrive in 07' I think. After that there will be very few upgrades. Seniorty freeze, I can't wait.

Can't afford to make the jump.
If you figure the cost of moving, setting up an apartment, food, etc.. the math just doesn't work out for me. Not to mention moving family, etc.

I don't have to worry about seniority flying freight. I am outbased and am the only pilot here. I fly my run, and can do whatever I want with my off time. The lure of flying for the airlines just isn't what it used to be for me. Some people live for it. I don't. I am flying and making a living and enjoying the type of flying I am doing. I will move on when something better comes along.

i didnt mean to jump on you...whats right for you is right for you. i wouldnt be doing the airline thing either if i didnt grow up 25 minutes from the most junior base of a regional thats hiring either. more power to you. its not the only way to make a living...

It does depend greatly on the individual. I left a fairly good corporate gig flying Citations to come to ExpressJet, and so far I've been very happy with my decision. Then again, I am also single with no one to take care of but myself. I must say that it is very nice to have a normal schedule now that allows me to plan my life, and to be able to work in a much larger, more structured atmosphere. The training staff and facilities are great here and overall its a good place to work. Best of luck.

Perhaps you didn't look at the pay scale that closely. You'dprobably match $25k the first year and be close to $10k more after ayear.

Clearly NOT offered the job or my guess..... never even offered the interview!

You made the right choice. With 1600 hours total time, FedEx or UPS will call any day now.

Flyinlow,

It all depends how bad you want it. You know how much you can make and now have a general idea on upgrade times, but how bad do you want it??

How many former freight dogs have you bumped into at XJET that was so greatful they "survived" 135?

It still amazes me when a captain will write up an arm rest, and MX will be there to atleast do something to it. God I love 121.

As far as the <$20k per year goes, you would have to be pretty lazy to not make 25K. Don't drop tirps, pick up some open time, grab those four day trips with more than two legs per day and you can make some cash in this game.

Fly safely,

scoot
