J.O. had been using this as a selling point to recruit new hires so I just thought I would let the entire world know the truth. I am a CRJ F.O. and I have everything that I am eligible to bid on my standing bid. I just found out that my upgrade class will be next year at the earliest. This indicates that my upgrade time at Mesa will occur after the 3.5 year mark.

Non compliance with our contract.
Management refuses to meet with our negotiating committee at all or even release them to take care of union business.
Hawaiian Airlines is suing us.
The Delta “Expansion” will result in a net loss of planes which will reduce the companies need for pilots.

This is a recipe for a long upgrade and a very miserable work experience for you.

Only you can decide what is right for you. With virtually every airline hiring the most professional advise that I can give you is to steer well clear of Mesa in your job search.

If you are a newbie at Mesa and you happen to be on the CRJ your equipment lock is now permanent. You can only upgrade to CRJ captain. You can not upgrade to ERJ captain unless you are an ERJ F.O. If there is any doubt look at standing bid 07-19 dated 4/2/07 before you accuse me of not knowing what I am talking about. I am still stunned at the looks and comments that guys fresh off of IOE give me. Most argue with me. Just look at the bid and you will see. O yea call the union to. They will explain it just like I did.

Are you sure, because wouldn't that be in violation with ur contract ?

Of course it is a violation of our contract. Just like Junior Assignments out of seniority order. Our contract is now amendable and we still can’t get the company to comply with that one. We are suing in federal court over it. This is over 4 years since the violations began.

How long do you suppose this one will take to work out? 4 years? Hope you wound not be planning on staying that long!

For now 3.5 year upgrades and getting longer not shorter. Less planes. Give me a good reason to come here! Come on just one!
There are no fast upgrades for CRJ F.O.s. Your equipment lock is permanent.

Hi!

Violation of the contract?
hahahaha

I worked at a -121 ALPA carrier. Mgmt routinely violated the contract.

After a year+ the problems went to arbitration, and they always found in the pilots favor-you just had to wait over a year to settle the grievance.

Okay, if your at Mesa just call out sick! Don't worry about contract violations and out of seniority drafts. If you feel you are unfairly being screwed then call out sick. IM SAFE.... Illness Mental Stress Alcohol, Fatigue, Emotion! Done Deal. They can't come to your house and pull you too the plane.

We all know MESA sucks please stop the whining, you choose to whore yourself out to the place remember?

I hope that my fellow SkyWest pilots see that alpa is pretty much powerless... the company, be it mesa or SkyWest can do what they want... to put it in tommy boys words... ill crap in a box and put a stamp on it for you!.. there is alpa- oh yeah minus 2% yeah yeah local i know ive heard it all...

Well if Skywest management is as benevolent as some make them out to be then you will not have the problems that Mesa has with Ornstein. But you never know when JA will call it quits and the next Ornstein takes his place.

But as another poster mentioned, after the greivance, it usually goes the pilot's way. Does Skywest pilots even have a grievance process when management decides to change something? It is Skywest pilots that are powerless. That is why management calls you at will employees!

I couldn't agree more. You chose the airline so deal with the $hit hole company YOU decided to work for. So quit your whining and go enjoy your 8 days off!

No vacation??? well you don't get block or better or cancellation either so what the problem you get to fly your crj900 for 20$/H or less if you overblock...I actually think it's funny!!!

Changing the subject? I agree with you. I should not have come to Mesa. It was a mistake. No dad or friend in the industry to advise me. I was running on the advise from Flight School Recruiters. I am not whining. I am attempting to keep others from making the same mistakes that I made.

Just telling the truth to new hires and prospective new hires. Conditions are very bad and you will have a long upgrade. Don't come to Mesa and pass it on.

Sh!t hole company. I agree. Whining. I disagree.

I am airing out the truth for recruits and new hires to see.

Steer well clear of this company.

nice try at a thread hijack :smash:

I hope all the SkyWest pilots read this thread...a lot of them seem to feel that once you have a "contract" management can't violate it.
HA

You obviously don't listen (read), we know that the company can violate the contract . . . but with a union we will at least have LEGAL recourse in those situations.

Hi!

I was at an ALPA carrier.

They furloughed OUT OF SENIORITY ORDER, to save $ up front.

A number of guys flew for months longer than they should have, and built up a bunch of flight time (this was a regional, and most of us needed the flight time bad).

After about a year, it was settled. The airline was forced to recall in seniority order. I believe they also had to give longevity, for pay, seniority and vacation to all the furloughees, however, this may have already been part of the contract.

Bottom line, some guys got more time to find a new job, more pay, and more flying hours than they should have-no compensation was received for those furloughed out of order.
