It had been a long since I had been at United's C Terminal at ORD until recently. The section of the terminal that at one time was a mecca of 727s and 737s going to all points of the country has been transformed into a whorehouse of scumbag regional operators.

A recent visit showed "Shuttle America" pilots in uniform sitting sideways, feet on the chair reading magazines. Many N**MJ CR7s line the end of the C Concourse. What a disgrace.

The G0Jet scum cowering and taking evasive action to avoid confrontation tops the list.

What a disgrace United's operation has become. This is not something that has taken place over the past 25 years, this has happened all within the past 25 months.

Oh how I wish your post would actually effect change at United. Alas, it will not. AWAC tried hard to do a good job for United. Many a UAL pilot sitting in the jumpseat of the 146 going into ASE would comment on how those guys didn't get paid enough to do that stuff let alone do it 2-3 times a day. Sad that when AWACs flying (assigned to it by UAL) was divied up between two non-union carriers (G0Jets and SkyWest) not a peep was heard. When there was a rally in STL about G0Jets many, many airlines were represented but not one pilot from UAL that I know of showed to show support.

Yes, I would like to fly again out of ORD under United. I took pride in the job we did for them. But, it is not to be. Moving on...

Tomcash: "whorehouse of scumbag regional operators" ummm, did u just wake up? You must be one of those old salty captains that is bitter that you had sell your beach house and Porsche boxer (which by the way is a poor man's Porsche). Do us all a favor and pack your little Boeing 707 models up and go back to your "old school" regulated club house.

People like you are what have F-ed up this industry. You were the give me all for nothing genereration and like most generations your time has come to an end! C yah bye!

Gentlemen,

That is enough! I don't go on any other message boards, so I don't know if talking like that is normal as far as these boards go, but how dare you speak about other people like that? I am dumbfounded by the lack of respect one human has for another, much less a pilot for another. Tom, how about mentoring one of those regional pilots (if, in fact, you are mainline). Prop, with all due respect, treat those who have gone before you with a little more respect. Most of all, quit bringing each other down! Aren't you sick of the negativity? I AM!!! Try a conversation. Try seeing it from someone else's point of view. Dam, I'm tired. This is sad. You guys are family. Show a little love.

I'm going to get some sleep.

Shy

P.S. I'm serious about the "point of vew" thing. Walk a mile...

Prop2Jet,

these "old salty captains" are the guys that built this industries pay scale up. It is your "prop2jet" guys, that are bringing it down.

A "boxer" is a guy who fights in a ring....actually a square. I think you were trying to say "boxter".

The "old salty captain" probably has respect for himself, his company, and his profession. Your "prop2jet" guys dont have, or show, respect for anyone.

Now go call daddy and tell him you need a newer BMW.

you know what you guys are right. I did generalize my points too much. I am just sick of people thinking regional pilots are "whores" and trash and people that screwed the whole industry up. And yes my strongest belief is about the Porsche!
I would love to drive a BMW but I like many other regional pilots don't make enough money to buy a KIA.
SHY you bring up a great point and I should not have posted my thoughts after a long day. Do understand that I know how the industry was formed and I have the upmost respect for the gentlemen who built the industry. Yet, Tomcash tore into us pretty hard and without regard for those of us who try to continue their legacy (as changed as it might have become).

Sir,
Where did you get your start at?

Another point, to remember, is these regional pilots only work for the Chautuaqauhs, Mesas, Skwests etc etc. They didn't come in and steal mainline routes. Mainline went to these regionals and asked that they fly the ORD-RDU; ORD-JAX; ORD-SYR etc etc etc for mainline. So if one wants to blast anyone about RJs taking over mainline routes, go talk to your management people. As for me, I lost my job when FLYI went belly up. I had no control of its fate. I had to find a job and AWAC was kind enough to offer one to me and get me back to work the quickest. Yes, first year pay bites, but when I get through it, I will be ok. If the arbitrator rules in favor of the big grievance and AWAC gets their old contract back, I will be making the same amount that I was making at the death of IDE. As for others in the industry, I am sure many are using their jobs as a stepping stone. I am sure if something bigger and better came along they'd be gone. Right now, the hiring is slow. Once again, talk to mgt about this. NWA and DAL are in bankrupcy, due to mismanagement and the same reason FLYI is extinct.
As for dressing or acting professionally, ALL carriers have their gems. Even DAL, I once saw a 50 something CA with a big pot belly and half his shirt tail untucked and his hat halfway over his head, slightly cocked to the right and the pack of Marlboros in his shirt pocket and coffee stains on his pocket flap next to his reading glassesthat looked like they've needed a bit of soap and water. It is just as bad as the RJ pilot with a ponytail down his back. Or that USAIR pilot who looked like he lost his way to the barbershop. Or the other mainline pilot sitting in the boarding area, feet up on his bag with white socks on and one can see the soles of his shoes looked like they could use some retreading. So, to single out regionals shows your own insecurities.

Seeing Jetstreams and CL-65 on your profile, weren't you once a prop2jet guy?

No, I am not prop2jet. He's a different person, if that's what you mean. I did start in this industry flying the good ole J31 and J32. But as times change so does the equipment, but to me, it doesn't matter. I just went with the flow of things. The props started to go to the desert and the RJs came along, at least it's quiter and cooler in the summertime and warmer in the winter. (When the APUs are working).
What dismayed me is the singling out of regional pilots and bashing them. As long as things are tough even at the legacy level it will trickle down to the regionals. Even the cargo and ACMI business is now starting to feel the pain.

My reply was to skiandsurf, who seems to have forgotten that he was a regional pilot at some point in time.

For their own self-interest, not for the 'good of the profession'. I doubt they did it for anyone's benefit but their own. Please do nto try to ascribe some noble character to it. They had negotiating leverage, we do not.

That is why tey looked down on regional pilots so often and were not interested in flow-throughs? Please.

Their were financially successful with their naked self-interest. The current generation is not.

I don't think it was some great self-respect that led to the golden-era contracts. It was market forces.

Every man for himself, this is the real world, not a practice session.

LOL...jesus..I'm still laughing after 10 mins of reading that! I can remember walking through the C terminal as a kid and being struck by the prestige of the passengers, pilots, rampers, and how clean everything was. Now is dirty rat trap full of staff who can't speak English and pilots who can't dress themselves.

I did not forget where I came from. Yes I instructed for 3 years, 1745.1 hours of dual given. Yes, I too flew the J32, for 3 years, as an FO. I flew my first jet when I had 10,000 hours.

More importantly, I came to work and "hung out" in the terminal and dressed and acted as if it was my interview day. Clean cut, and not looking sloppy.

I showed respect for myself, my co-workers, and my airline. Even when they disrespected me, I held up my end of the deal.

It doesnt matter where you came from, or how much time you have, its a matter of upholding the image. When you interviewed, did you wear an earing and a ponytail? I doubt it. Why start now?

No need to bash each other, but raise above that, and show respect for our chosen jobs.

:rolleyes:Most of the difference between NOW and back in the "Golden Era" is that they took PRIDE in their jobs. Now you see A LOT of guys that "as has been stated on here before..." need haircuts, need to iron a shirt or look like they just woke up! Take some pride in yourselves that's all. Remember when being an Airline Pilot was a HUGE DEAL? If you don't, watch Airport! That is how we should be acting in "public!"

Fly Safe

That would be great. Then I might get a call for me on the White Courtesy Phone! After which, I would pick up the Red Courtesy Phone and then have the PA lady yell at me. (Or did I have that backwards...)

Uh Kmox? I said AIRPORT....NOT AIRPLANE!

There are plenty of major pilots that should take this advice as well.

Tomcash while you were out,UAL lost there pensions, there pay and there QOL.I hope the unfreezing process was not too painful, evacuation completed welcome to 2006!

Y'know, I remember 20-25 years ago when I was a litttle kid and you traveled, EVERBODY was dressed up. So, even though I'm all for TRYING to maintain a good appearance in the terminal, I can excuse a guy for sometimes looking a little less than perfect, in light of some of the assclowns we haul around who look like they just fell out of a tree.

Doh!

But just think if you could wear shorts like Co-Pilot Roger Murdock...
