United Airlines Announces Plans to Launch Nonstop Service to Kuwait
Wednesday May 24, 7:00 am ET New service symbolizes the expansion of United's global network into the fast-growing Middle East region
CHICAGO, May 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United Airlines today announced that it has plans to offer customers three new weekly flights* between Washington, D.C. and Kuwait City -- adding the Middle East region to its strong global network. Pending foreign government approval, United plans to begin service in late October 2006, and will be the only U.S. airline to offer nonstop service between the United States and Kuwait. Customers will be able to make reservations beginning Saturday, May 27.
"Launching service to Kuwait further demonstrates our commitment to expanding our global network, bringing our passenger and cargo customers closer to the world's key economic centers," says John Tague, United's executive vice president and chief revenue officer. "Our business and cargo customers will soon have direct access into the Middle East where there is strong demand from the petroleum, energy and shipping industries."
The proposed flight schedule between Washington, D.C. and Kuwait City willbe as follows: Schedule Depart Arrive Washington-Dulles to Kuwait City 9:56 p.m. 5:55 p.m. (the following day) departs Tue., Thu., Sat. Kuwait City to Washington-Dulles 12:35 a.m. 6:27 a.m. departs Mon., Thu., Sat. All routes and frequencies are subject to change.
United plans to operate combined passenger and cargo service between the United States and Kuwait using a Boeing-777 aircraft configured with 10 United First Suite® seats, 45 United Business® seats and 198 United Economy® class seats, including 84 Economy Plus® seats.
The new route is expected to serve as an important cargo access point into the Middle East, due to the region's high demand for oil and gas equipment, and perishables. Mail also is expected to represent a significant amount of volume on these flights. United has had a long-standing presence in Kuwait through its partnership with STAR Alliance partner Lufthansa. United's global network will now be enhanced through its proposed nonstop service, which will provide travelers and shippers with convenient connections to more than 90 destinations via its Washington-Dulles hub.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Kuwait City will be Ted's newest hub... Just think, only 79 doobers to the cities of Riyahd, Daharan, and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and 59 doobers to the garden of Dubai, UAE and they'll pay you 29 doobers to fly to Bagdahd and Tehran!!!

Maybe we will fly the KUW hub on TED with the Airbus's that B6 is selling.

Nice try, but B6 isn't planning on selling the bus to "yo"nited. The leather seats and TV's would confuse you too much.

yo'nited would love to get those pre-cleaned airplanes. Saves us one cleaning by the cabin service folks. Maybe you guys could use that in your marketing of the airplanes? "fairly new bus for sale, you buy, we give you the first cabin cleaning free. Our pilots are standing by to assist in this process."

Are you tellin' me that after all the restructuring done at UAL, you guys still have UAL employed cabin cleaners?!?!?!?

You couldn't have gotten rid of the UAL employed cabin cleaners and hired some contract company to do it for a much lower cost?

A perfect example of 32 and his well run airline. I have no problem helping out in the back. I'm not so arrogant. Helping this plane turn gets it back in the air. The more it flys the better we will do. Its small concepts like these that go right over the head of a person like 32.

That's F'n hillarious!

Sorry to make you blue but UA has outsourced cabin cleaning, has been outsourced for quite sometime. As for cleaning my airplane I would miss the better part of my SYD layover if I had to go back and turn all the seatbelts in the 400. Also the turn times on the widebodies generally allows for adequate ground servicing time. So me and my f/o's picking up trash would do little to expedite an already on-time operation. Of course I notice B6 is tardy quite often according to the DOT so I guess when you can not arrive on schedule then you must get back in the back and clean the cabin.

Do you still have bagge handlers employed by B6? Could not a motivated crew get on the bags and help cut some overhead with the airline? Also, how about power backs? Get rid of that pesky push tug. You guys are wasting so much.

It's like putting corn on a fish hook waiting for 32LT... It didn't take long to catch him... He says he flies 74s to SYD, yeah, maybe on Flight Sim 2005!!! He's really just a pimply faced kid who found this website by accident after spilling his Cheetos on the keyboard!!! At least we didn't do 3 years in bankruptcy, yet...

maybe B6 guys can file a petition to fly jfk kuwait round trip with the same crew, so they can stay competetive and more productive for 80$ an hour. JUST LIKE THEY TRIED ON TRANSCON FLTS LAST YR>

Nice to see that all the airlines are expanding overseas and AA is shrinking.

Lord, when will it end....

Good on ya, UAL folks, expansion is usually good.

Great idea. They like to stay on home domicile time, so a 29 hour kuwait turn should be a no brainer. They would probably do it without the crew rest seat. Just give'em two pilots and a shiny jet and they are happy to fly anything for anything and will even clean the plane also.

Or even better, hired cabin cleaners who will also fly the planes for free.
