For starters does United allow small dogs in the cabin?
Here's my dilemma I need to go up to the Sacramento area to pick up a very small puppy. My great airline does not allow dogs in the cabin unless they are service animals. So I am thinking about trying to jump on United instead. I am a little uneasy about showing up for the jumpseat with the puppy. So maybe I'll just buy a ticket.

What are your thoughts on this?

If you can get to a JFK, you are allowed to carry small pets in the cabin at JetBlue as long as they are in an approved pet carrier.

Unless there's something in our FOM that I'm not aware of, I'd let you jumpseat as long as there was a seat in the back for you and Fido. I wouldn't let the dog in the cockpit. However, since it's probably kind of a grey area, it probably just depends upon who the Captain is. Small animals are allowed in our cabins as long as their in their carrying case.

Where are you comming from?????

You might want to just use a pass rather than jumpseating. Check the pet policies on ual.com. I'm pretty sure a small puppy can be carried in an approved pet carrier. If you're on a pass and in compliance with UAL policies regarding pets you should be golden. Jumpseating may work out just fine also. A pass is good insurance though. Keep in mind you may be flying on a UAX carrier that has different policies. You might want to check to see if the route is served by both mainline and UAX or a combination of both.
