"Dipped like a ferry" refers to passenger/car ferries that cross the English channel and are basically floating tin cans and pitch up and down on the waves - very sickening experience

I heard the flight real time jumping over the pond. There did not seem to be a lot of screaming or panic going on. The guys were very calm and did a great job unlike the writer of this article.
 
Wow, Ive never heard of an airplane "losing height" Hopefully nobody was squished!
