UAL is just pissed because the only tickets they sell out of Cleveland are one way to places like Bakersfield and Palmtucky.

A recently merged airline looking for excuses to shut down, or at least greatly shrink a hub... gee we haven't ever seen that before. (STL, PIT, MEM, CVG, ect.)

Exactly....

I don't understand why pilots get so bent out of shape about stuff like this. Having so many hubs close together isn't efficient and is thus very costly. Dulles, Newark, Chicago, Cleveland. One of those was bound to be closed.

This was pre-planned long ago. They're using the "pilot shortage" as the scape goat so it looks like they're still loyal to CLE and to publicize the shortage so they can have support when the industry tries to roll back 117 and the 1500 hour rule. You can hear A4A now, "we have to change things back to when we could abuse pilots or we'll have to close more hubs." Congress, the FAA and the public will fall for it and 117 and the 1500 rule will go away.

The 117 rules will become the source of blame for pretty much everything from here on out in the industry.
