Now this sounds like something I would do. This guy has got some balls! If your reading this, ROCK ON MAN! I got this as an e-mail from a girl I am friends with that is a flight attendant at UAL, she been furloughed twice, but she young...

This was wrote/e-mailed to upper management at United Airlines...

May 12, 2005

You have made it painfully clear how unimportant ALL United's employees
are to you at the top management level. After enduring your antics for the
past several years, I shouldn't be surprised by your pathetic and disgusting
behavior. However, I had hoped maybe you might find some decency in
yourselves by now.

You are nothing less than thieving, lying, marauding corporate Pirates,
pretending to be astute businessmen dressed in suits. You hang around for a
few years, destroy our futures, degrade and abuse all who work for the good
of the company, collect your bonuses and disappear with your golden
parachutes. What is amazing is the fact YOU are never accountable nor is it
ever YOUR fault when your own decisions are disastrous.

The Pilot group which has given you all they hold dear is rapidly becoming
aware of the deception and utter lack of integrity from UAL management! I am
disappointed in our weak ALPA leadership and how you have exploited our lack
of strength and unity to fight for our very existence. However, this apathy
on our part may change in light of your most recent abhorrent behavior.
Many of us are ready for war!

I doubt you have a clue just how distressed most of us are. Pilots have
spent years training and educating themselves for what has become an
inconsequential temporary JOB that is not worth the stress and hardship on
ourselves and families! Many are now actively seeking to escape UAL or even
the airline industry all together from what was formerly a respected career.

The presumption there is little you can do to get back on tract is absurd.
You have bankrupt UAL, stolen our stock, destroyed our pensions, reduced
our salaries to ridiculous levels, degraded and abused us all, and yet you are
not accountable!?!? I suspect all of this has been a grand plan, but many
of my peers just think you're idiots! The truth is most likely a mix of these
reasons amongst you.

There are just no words to describe the disgust and contempt I hold for all
of you. I will forever be unwilling to trust or even listen to the drivel
you unscrupulous nitwits infect this company with! Ironic you keep your
pensions while you continue to slash and burn your most important asset;
All the people who once made United great!

Sincerely,
David Zogg

The letter I sent to you please forward to ALL. I still have a job SO FAR,
but I was removed from flight status and sent home while in London UK as per
LAX flight manager, Joe Noval. He and I don't like each other and have had
problems in the past. I'm told a flight was cancelled because of this mess,
but I can't confirm it. My ALPA rep is handling it now and it looks like a
psyche evaluation is coming this week. More will probably happen Monday
when all the suits get back into the office. I will update as things unfold.
I am in the middle of this **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** storm, but you can help by informing your
contacts. If they fire me, I will try to go to the media as this pension
crap is being watched closely.
Thank you for your support
David

A friend suggested I might be too traumatized and embarrassed by what
the flight office has done to me. I might need to take the summer off. Also,
if you guys are willing, get as many as possible to copy my letter, sign your
own names to it and all send them in while on a trip and they will have to
pull everyone off at the same time. We'll see what happens tomorrow first.

Other than a spleen venting, what did he expect to get from this? Are we certain that this is not a hoax or urban legend?

A psych evaluation has been ordered? If he thought this letter would do any good, perhaps he needs one.

This letter (if really in existence) will accomplish exactly nothing, other than to damage his own career.

I'm sure the catharsis is over now, and all that remains is the carpet-dancing.

It's like giving a cop the finger when he pulls you over. It might feel good, but it just isn't worth it.

I'm sure it's worth it (giving the finger t a cop that is) just a bit expensive for FO pay!

It was...

It was posted on this board before... I just got her e-mail today.

You guys are late, that letter was posted like two weeks ago.

And THAT's why the computer shouldn't be any closer than 12 hours to the beer supply. The replies are spot-on. The exercise may have felt good but was the writer even tilting at windmills?

Wasn't particularaly noble- it was simply intertaining and a miscue on his part. Got him pulled off a trip, and in this day and age, understandably.

A further thought - the post says that this pilot is 'making a stand'.

I really must disagree. An angry letter full of invective is not really taking a stand. Taking a stand would imply that you are DOING something to change the situation. The letter accomplishes nothing in that regard.

Look how much good farenheit 911 did michael moore. If anything, it helped W get re-elected.

What an idiot. Ranting and Raving gets you nowhere and the childless insults and name calling simply gives you no credibility. There is a much more diplomatic and professional way to get your point across and FO Zogg is a Fool for lowering himself to such a classless level.

If he passes the psych eval, does he go back on the line?

Seems FO Zogg is one who slipped through the cracks. Would a "real" UAL guy unravel like that?
Perhaps alcohol was involved. Either way, what a shame to bring that sort of attention to one's name in the CP's office. Stand? What stand? I'm convinced that 8 out of 10 airline managements SUCK. So, what is his point? That UAL is one of the eight?

First, I'm not sure why he was taken off the line. The letter really isn't that bad. God forbid one of the worker bees should question the absolute authority of a manager or executive. Their all gods, just ask one.

Second, the age of these "higher beings" stepping on collective labor is drawing to an end. The time is coming when labor will take this fight out of the boardrooms and courtrooms to the street. An era will return when managers will refrain from such nefarious activities, not because of work stoppages or lawsuits, but because they possess raw fear. Their day of reckoning is coming.

FO Zogg's letter is merely venting. Eventually their won't be enough 'vents' and the pressure will cause an explosion.

We are a country of sheep, always doing what we are told, never having a say in the way things are run. Soon the soft wool coat will be cast aside and the teeth of the animal will become apparent. After all, you can only beat a dog so much before he bites you.

It happened here and in other parts of the world before, it CAN happen here again. The proud history of the organized labor movement demands it.

What exactly are you speaking of here? Why will they possess raw fear? Fear of what? If you take anything to "the street" the only people who will need to fear you are other workers willing to do your job for less money.

Who are sheep? Airline employees? I have a say in how things are done in my life, why don't you?

It is telling that you relate workers to "dogs". I think they are quite capable human beings.

Is this the well worn call of "Workers Unite"?

What's wrong w/ the letter. Most of it is true. The fact that many of these replies are from pilots is what's really scarry. No wonder this profession continues to decline.

ALPA has forgot its proud history fighting E.L. Cord's alter ego pilot replacement operations. Today ALPA is doing everything possible to encourage alter ego competition between pilots. The dog's teeth have rotted out.

Pilots are pretty much limited to taking it while their temporary jobs last, or venting like Zogg did. Zogg's outburst, while probably accurate, will not do anything but harm its author. At any company outbursts like this tend to end careers.

Good luck to all the good people at United.

Great responses...

Could you imagine being 59 years old at United this year. After giving 25 years of services & then this happens? Do you have a choice when it comes to money coming out of your income into a pension? This guy is writing what many a people are probably thinking & feeling, upper management is probably laughing at him... True he probably could have worded things in a more professional manner... But sometime being raw gives you more attention! This is taking a stand, whenever you put your: life, name, career... out there on the line to make your objection know, it called TAKING A STAND FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IS WRONG & FVCKED UP. PurpleinMEM I agree with everything you had to say...

You are advocating physical violence or imtimidation?

If you think you can get populist support for union thugh tactics to protect a 100k+ job, you obviously need to understand that the majority of the populaiotn thinks we are overpaid.

I can tell you entertain fantasies of torches and pitchforks, but I am here to tell you that it just ain't gonna happen.

I think the letter was a great idea. If more pilots over at UAL would do
something, anything, then something might get done over there! I don't know
how you guys think he will get fired for writing a letter; they have ALPA there
don't they? I don't think UAL would want that story being in the news!

If a letter like this would get you pulled off a trip; I would write one a month here
at ASA!

When are you guys going to wake up and realize that Tilton, Parker,
Grinstein (insert your favorite CEO here) couldn't care less about
what any of the employees think. They're going to do what they're
going to do and ride off into the sunset when it's all over while
the rest of us are kicking bricks down the road.
